Named after one of the first pitchers to throw a curve ball, Bellefonte native Monte Ward, the Monte Weizen is an unfiltered German style wheat that displays hints of clove, lemon, and orange.

Had on draft @ The Gamble Mill brewpub, in Bellefonte, PA, USA .. first stop of the day - streaky thin bubbles .. banana, light clove, and lemon pith .. . a touch bitter for a hefe .. . . that marzoni lady looked like she was hiding 2 fighting pigs under her shirt..

On tap at the brewpub. Interesting, the sample I had was clear enough to call a Kristallweizen. I thought the structure was there, but the yeasty wheaty texture didn’t live up to what I was looking for. The flavors were a little far ranging, although I enjoyed the juicyfruit finish. Solid, but needs a little more traditional touch to make it super quaffable, otherwise the esters and phenols get a little terse and not so drinkable.

Not a bad attempt at a here but lacks effervescence. Some banana notes on the nose and the color has a bit of cloudiness to it. The taste is sweet on the tongue but the finish lacks that big slice burst you get in a great hefe. Finishes fairly clean.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2013 Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a clear dark golden color with a medium sized foamy white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was strong sugar and tangy citrus. The flavor was fairly strong banana, bubblegum and sugar with notes of candied fruit and a surprising bit of fusel alcohol. The finish was long and tangy with sugar and bubblegum and lingering alcohol. Medium body. Oddly off but overall a decent brew.

On tap at The Gamble Mill. Nose is fruity with sulfur, banana, and light clove. A bit of corn. Cloudy pale golden with thin foamy head. Medium light body with medium carbonation. Starts sweet and wheaty with tons of banana and clove. A bit of cooked corn and a touch of sulfur at the finish - maybe needs a bit more time to age. Sweet, pleasing after. A nice wheat.

A little citrus but a lot of buttered corn. Hazy lemmon applejuice color. Flavor is a really nice citrus with a grassy, yeasty bitterness. Thin body. Very refreshing.

Sample at brewpub. Pours hazy, light yellow, with fizzy white head. Stinky garbage banana nose. Banana and clove with wheaty backbone. Bread and grain. Solid.
