Medium light beige head. Deep dark red body. Fruity wild berry and spice aroma with dusty notes. Dry-sweet roasty fruity wild berry taste with earthy dusty notes. Sharpish mouthfeel. Light body. Dry mealy spicy wild berry aftertaste with caramelly chocolate notes. Very nice. Harmonic and balanced. (0.33l draft at Bierbrasserie Cambrinus, Bruges, under the name "Cambrinus Brune".)

On tap at Cambrinus on 9/3/09: Pours a transparent ruby mahogany with a well-lacing froth of light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and raisins with some doughy yeasty complexity and light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and malty sweetness with a finely dissolved carbonation and hints of peppery clove and dark caramel and bready complexity before a slightly drier full finish. Very well-balanced and enjoyable.

Bottle at GBBF 08... Deep red/brown ... sweet vanilla ... rich fruity ... little over sweet ... again vanilla ... would get sickly.

On tap at Cambrinus. Brugge, April 2008. Noticeably better balanced than the blond. Dark brown with a lasting tan head. Smooth and easy drinking. Some residual sugar but not too sweet. Touches of caramel, liquorice and raisiny fruit. Not packed with character but perfectly pleasant.

Draught at Cambrinus in Brugge. Sweet, brown sugar aroma. Very dark brown colour, seems clear. Big, stable light brown head. The flavour starts off roasted, turns sweet, like brown sugar, and ends with a bit of sourness. Good sweetness with a hint of alcohol to balance.
