Bottle at GBBF 08... Deep red/brown ... sweet vanilla ... rich fruity ... little over sweet ... again vanilla ... would get sickly.

Draught at Cambrinus in Brugge. Sweet, brown sugar aroma. Very dark brown colour, seems clear. Big, stable light brown head. The flavour starts off roasted, turns sweet, like brown sugar, and ends with a bit of sourness. Good sweetness with a hint of alcohol to balance.

Draught Huge, dark-beige head, very dense; very dark burgundy-red beer. Nutty, meaty, very estery and yeasty brew. Sweet nose, but the meaty notes get realy imposing; Nutty taste again, very sweet hazelnuts on cheap Marssala. Retronasal dark malts, earthy, as well as leafy. Very slick, rather well-bodied, aftertaste with more sweet cheap port-like,fading flavours. Itís probably pleasing to the masses.

On tap at Cambrinus. Brugge, April 2008. Noticeably better balanced than the blond. Dark brown with a lasting tan head. Smooth and easy drinking. Some residual sugar but not too sweet. Touches of caramel, liquorice and raisiny fruit. Not packed with character but perfectly pleasant.

Tap, Cambrinus, Brugge, 15/02/12. Garnet with a slim cap of foam. Pretty lush Vimto and Burdock aroma. Berry and red boiled sweet, Vimto character. Lacks a bit of malt back up, but tasty stuff.

On tap at Cambrinus on 9/3/09: Pours a transparent ruby mahogany with a well-lacing froth of light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and raisins with some doughy yeasty complexity and light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and malty sweetness with a finely dissolved carbonation and hints of peppery clove and dark caramel and bready complexity before a slightly drier full finish. Very well-balanced and enjoyable.

A Sim Rate (draught at Cambrinus, Bruges): I knew this beer would turn up eventually. Iíve had this rate in my phone for about a year waiting for someone to enter it as I didnít have all the details! Thanks oberabcbbsok! Sweet aroma of cream cheese and jam. Smells like a caramel covered Belgian waffle a.la Lowlander. Gorgeous ruby colour. Tastes a bit watery for a brune, but tangy alcohol tinge in the finish. Toffee and nuts in the flavour. Itís apparent thereís a reasonable amount of alcohol in there.
