On tap at Volo. Pours a dark brown with modest-sized tan head. Aroma is sweet toasty malt with a little nuttiness. Taste is malt forward with a mellow roastiness, nut and some sweet fruitiness. Fine carbonation. Nice.

[4290-20120209] Tap. Maple syrup wood grain malt aroma has a light leaf mould background. Black body with a quick foamy light brown head. Overly sweet wood malt flavour has a ton of maple wood in it. Full body is a little on the medium side. Not enjoyable at first but grows on you (not like a fungus) after a while. (6/3/6~/3/13) 3.1

garthicus (2089) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 24, 2012
On tap at Burger Bar. Appearance: dark ruby red almost black body with a Guinness head. Quite thick. Aroma: Almost oatmeal and chocolate like, quite malty, small blackberry Flavour too. Flavour: quite a malt character, a little sour, a dash of alcohol, weak body. Quite a strange beer, nitro looking but with a porter mouthfeel. So odd.

2012-02-09. Very dark brown body, tiny brown head. Flavour is a bit strange, dry toasty roasty malt is brown ale or porter like, sweet malt below is more bock like. The mix of the two is like two fat men pushing through a door at the same time - the flavours clash a bit. Odd, with fruity undertones that carry into the aroma, with notes of toasty roast malt and echoes of cold fruity coffee that is a bizarre but not unpleasant melange. 6+ Hints at smokey maple? Smooth average palate is nearly flavour. Sort of a tonic water like mineral character in the aftertaste, and allusions to cola. Not unpleasant, but strange. On tap at Volo, Toronto

I had this twice tonight and I enjoyed it a lot more as the first beer of the night. I noticed a bit of bitter hops and an unplaceable type of sweetness I would put halfway between honey and something I can’t think of. It was alright, but since the only other eisbock I’ve had is the best one it doesn’t really match up that well. On tap at Burger Bar.

January 10, 2012 - on draught at Volo. Appealing-looking deep, near-opaque yet clear ruby with a solid and lasting creamy/foamy tan head. Aroma .. well, perhaps if I had not already had several "real" eisbocks this would not have perplexed me, but .... "nutshell bitterness, some alcohol and spice, but --- a fair bit of butter" - but my voice notes said "give it a generous 7-" - so I will. Taste - even less like an eisbock (where’s the fruit? the spice? the BOOZE????) - this is mostly butter and paper with some generic bitterness, weak alcohol, no sweetness, spice or fruit character at all - a generous 6/10. Average at best mouthfeel, astringent, decent carbonation, and building harshness in the finish. How is this an eisbock???

on tap at The Burger Bar Dark brown pour, small to no head. Aromas of sweet boozy malts, caramel, and light nuts. very low carb, and a medium mouth feel. Finish was sweet, and medicinal, lightly bready, and a touch roasty.

Draught at Volo. Pours a very dark ruby, almost dark brown, with a spare diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma of diacytl (sp?), lightly roasted caramel malt, nuts, coffee and some sugary sweetness. Flavour follows with diacytl and light roasted malt along with a hint of coffee, nuts and a light, short bitter finish. Average bodied. It’s not bad at all but it’s also not on style. -- Rated via Beer Buddy.
