Note: physically brewed at Trabelsdorf until Dec 2010 and known as Beck-Bräu Kellerbier.

Gänstaller Bräu Kellerbier Mandarina is the same as Gänstaller Bräu Kellerbier, confirmed by brewer Andreas Gänstaller. Bavaria Mandarina hops have been used in his Kellerbier for years, replacing Spalter Select for late hopping. The name change was to feature the hop name at pubs.

From tap@In de Wildeman, Amsterdam. Firm offwhite head. Hazy, orangey-golden body. A scent of fresh, sourish malts on the nose. Taste is crisp malty and slight yeasty. Dry with a certain tartness. Well-bodied and slick in the mouth. Easy drinking. Very quenching, very well crafted.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 Bottle @ Brewery (Beck Brau). Pours clear golden with a small settling white head and lacings. Nose is grassy and perfumy hops. Also some citrus. Crisp and dry flavor with quite alot of hops and some buiscuit. Very smooth palate. Nice. Re-rate July-13. Tap @ Zoiglstube. New Ganstaller Version. Grass, biscuit, floral hops and straw. 3,5-3,7.

It’s hazy orange-golden with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, bread, grain and light syrup. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of malt, citrus hops, caramel and the finish is dry with a light bitterness.

bottle from Frankenbrotzeit. Hazy amber-golden colour, large white head. Hoppy nose. Solid malty background with lots of resiny-citrusy hops, reminding me of an IPA. A very nice Kellerbier.

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Murky brown with thin head. Sugary and malty nose. Corny taste, lots of herbs and vegetables. Watery and taste too funky for me. Malty notes in the finish.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2013 first had on draft at Beck Brauerei in Trabelsdorf before Andreas left to start on his own. since then I’ve had it twice more at the Zoiglstube in Strassgeich. I rate it around 4.3-4.5, but give it a 5.0 because it’s a personal favorite, one that I dream of drinking every day. notice the ratings drop off the further you get from the brewery (and in bottles too, which Andreas has stopped doing for this beer in recent years). If you want a taste of the best kellerbier in Germany, make the effort and travel to Bamberg and then Strassgeich. the old rating: heavy cloudiness, light copper in color. nose of creamed semi-sour peach skin, snappy/woody/pine-nut hops. creamy and rich texture, exceptionally well structured with tight carbonation and a soft, silky mouthfeel. pear skin, grapefruit rind, prickly and spicy yeast... expertly crafted.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2010 [9/7/09] Botte sampled at my hostel in Brussels. Slightly hazy golden-copper color with a white head. Aroma is grainy with some malt, cooked vegetables, yeasty notes, a bit oh hops and buttery notes. Sweetish flavor with some husky graininess, yeast notes, vegetables, light sourish notes and a slightly drier finish. Medium-bodied.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a pale amber with tiny floating impurities and an off-white head. Lightly tart, malty nose. Medium body, a little oxidized, soft mouthfeel. No real bitterness. Over the top. 230909

VEry nice and refreshing, a little boring and not so hoppy, I like the keller ones.
