For those of you who donít know Aro there is a light side and a dark side to the valley. For those of us on the dark side of the street itís been a long dark winter. But salvation is nigh. The coming of Spring has brought the first teasing hints that the sun might come again to the Garage.

Tasted in 650ml bottle. Holds the head well, looks fantastic in the glass. Understated coffee bean, chocolate malt aromas from the glass with a hint of liquorice which all follows through on the palate. Extremely smooth and easy drinking, tasted this stout in the middle of New Zealand summer and still thoroughly enjoyable. Great length and depth to the back palate, well balanced and in all, a great beer.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Pours quite dark, black in glass, with a big tanned head. Smell of coffee, some chocolate, hints of roast, toast and soil. Light to moderate sweet, distinct toast and burnt malts up front, coffee and roast next, then a quite dry mouthfeels that leads to a earthy medium bitter finish. Coffee rocks the tail. A quite nice stout

Bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, beige head. Unclear. The aroma is roasted tending towards burnt, with some charcoal and dried fruits. Prunes and dried figs. Some sweetness in the flavor, but itís actually quite dry. Roasted malts, charcoal and dark dried fruits. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting roasted and lightly burnt finish with some charcoal and prunes. A bit burnt for my likings, but a fine beer anyway. 141220

Very, very dark with only faint ruby highlights and small beige head that doesnít last long. Dark chocolate in the aroma, with earthy hops, some molasses, caramel, a little roasted meat. Taste is between a porter and black IPA and exactly as the smell suggests, with a long dry and ashy finish. Medium bodied and somewhat prickly on the tongue. Good hop-forward porter.
