For those of you who donít know Aro there is a light side and a dark side to the valley. For those of us on the dark side of the street itís been a long dark winter. But salvation is nigh. The coming of Spring has brought the first teasing hints that the sun might come again to the Garage.

I made this assessment based upon a measure poured off tap from Casselís. I waited for it to warm up from the over-cold gas pour and saw that it was black with ruby notes in the dimple of the glass. Aromas came forth of raisin and plum sauce, inedible cherry but still it was too cold. I tasted (said Hemmingway), it was cold and it was like Renaissance Elemental Porter, a beer I LOVE. It had the berry and plum with touches of coffee, red plums and coffee. An understated stout but immediately drinkable until you get to the point where you canít drive, canít speak properly and canít engage third gear on your legs. My best advice is to lower the alcohol. Please?

Flaske 500ml fra Vinmonopolet Mo i Rana. Svart. Middels hÝyt mokkafarget skum som raskt blir film. Bra aroma av kaffe & lakris. Smaken rÝstet malt med en viss syrlighet. Blir veldig tÝrr etter hvert. Litt bunnfall.

tar black with a persistent foamy tan head. Medium-heavy body, medium bitterness with slightly sweet, burnt chocolate flavour and aromas, and a toasty coffee finishing note.

Pitch black with a fluffy, light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee and leather. A fair whack of citrus bitterness in this, those roasted malts try their hardest to balance it out but donít quite achieve success. Thereís also a molasses like sweetness underlying the citrus hops, especially as the beer warms up - quite complex. Mouth feel is a little light on, not as velvety as a nice stout should be. Not bad, not great.

Smooth easy drinker - quite light on the tongue despite the abv - tastes familiar but one taste and thereís no way Guiness will ever be acceptable again.

Bottle @ home. Pours a red/brown liquid with a stable and creamy beige head. Dry and a bit sweet roasted and malty aroma with notes of dark fruits, coffee, charcoal, leather, dark chocolate. Taste is bitter and roasted with some sour wet charcoal notes. Taste has coffee, leather, some nicely balancing maltiness, caramel and dark fruits. Dry texture and small mouth feel, medium carbonation with sharp bubbles. Aftertaste is dry with lingering charcoal, dark chocolate, tart roastiness, leather and licorice. Some warming alcohol in background. Lasting coffee bitterness.

Pours oily with a thick tan head that completely dissipates. Flavour is bitter, front, middle and end of palate and no follow through to balance it off. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
