COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Tastes Like War". Slogging up and down the mounts of Venus really takes it out of a chap. After a long day at it, his Lordship needs a special something to steady the legs. Brewed to his own special requirements, Lord Cockswain’s Double Barrel Blend is a judicious blend of freshly brewed Courage, and our brewery ’stock’, aged for over 12 months in oak bourbon barrels. Combining the rich licorice, raisin and vanilla character of aged porter, with a lively sparkle and chocolate character of freshly brewed beer, the result is complex, powerful and deceptively drinkable. Just the way his lordship likes it. Bottled on 8th July 2013 Enjoy now or for several years to come

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with a small beige head which quickly disappears. Nose is full of bourbon notes - mild spice and coconut is very forward with light chocolate biscuit and moderate dark fruits. Quite raisin driven with plenty of coconut and light biscuit. Spice comes in and out and helps it finish with a real earthiness throughout. Unique at points but not overly balanced and finishes a little thin. Hides the booze well though. Hit and miss but solid for the most part

Bottle at TimE’s Tasting. Dark dark brown - offwhite head. Sweetness. Licorice. Roasted. Bourbon. Dried fruits. Raisins. Vanilla. Coconut. Boozy. Ryebread. A bit unbalanced.

This one has some roast, some fruits and a bite of alcohol also. Bitter honey. Feels sticky and sweet - but accompanied with fresh hop bitterness. Bourbon barrel feel comes out as well. Long, warming bourbon aftertaste. I like it.

Rather enjoyable just needs a more fleshed out body to hang the flavour off. A bit too smooth for such a big beer - I want to get the full visual, visceral emotive performance, not just voluminously sucking back on rocket fuel. It’s almost too dainty for a 10% beer from a Barrel.

Aroma is French toast, honey, smoke, sticky. Taste is great, lots of bourbon, sweet malt, caramel. Nice

Bottle sample at the RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours brown in color with amber highlights and a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, light barrel notes, a hint of bourbon and vanilla. The alcohol remains well hidden. Good, not great.

2014 RBWG Grand Tasting. Brown body with tan head. Big bourbon aroma that takes over as the predominant flavor. Too much bourbon, maybe there was a great beer here.

Bottle shared by Gene at RBWG grand tasting, thanks! Pours a clear amber with a brown hue and a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of dark grains with bourbon and vanilla and a bit of roasted malts underlying. Flavor starts with dark bread and roasted malts but grows in sweetness with vanilla and bourbon.

Bottle at RBWG. Pours dark brown with off white head. Nose and taste of chocolate, caramel, toffee and light char. Medium body. Okay.

Bottle generously shared at the RBWG grand tasting. Nose and flavor has moderate coffee and dark chocolate notes with lingering bourbon in the finish. Fairly standard bourbon porter.
