This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you haven’t you should. It could be life changing. It’s an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off – mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice aren’t exactly conventional ingredients. Don’t bother checking, they aren’t listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

Hazy golden beer with a nice heavy off-white head. Smells like a tropical salad in a Thai restaurant. Big melon and passionfruit mixed with coriander and sweet red chili. Fresh and bitter, really fruity, watermelon, passionfruit and massive pine resins. In the mix is a really thai inspired flavour, slightly spicy chili and coriander pepper, all on top of a bready malt backing. The finish is mildly bitter and fresh, very think malt and a slight chili heat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Aroma a strong point - taste is decent but perhaps a little too much bitterness to complement the exotic ingredients? It’s a good beer but it seems that others have seen more in it than I did. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance in the future

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Storo. Bb date 11/11/14. Deep golden hazy color, good foam. Immediately hoppy, pine, some fruitiness , malt and light citrus- also good yeast influence. Medium/ full body & medium complexity. Solid bitterness, ok balance. Very enjoyable, powerfull with a good backbone

To tell the truth, I opened this beer by accident. I meant to open something a little less assertive to have with my tin of Irish stew. I reached into the fridge, grabbed the wrong can and ripped open the top. My initial reaction was "Oh, bugger." my final reaction was "Oh, good." After my meal this beer cut through the fattiness of the stale horse meat (I jest. It probably wasn’t horse... as far as I know). It looks reddish amber with a temporary cream covered head. It has good clarity and smells of rich herbal hoppiness and resinous American hops. This is the evident flavour along with a gently prickly mouthfeel. The bitterness is even and definite. You know you’re inhaling a classic IPA. If you’re lucky enough to burp while drinking this, you’ll understand how this is a good match for flavoursome and spicy foods. Yes. More please.

Opaque amber appearance. Short lived head. Very pleasing, slightly fruity taste. A thirst-quencher.

65 cl bottle from vinmonopolet Asker. Pours hazy dark golden with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, pineapple, mango and some malty notes. Flavour is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long fresh tropical fruity and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Quite an interesting ipa with a small twist.
