This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you haven’t you should. It could be life changing. It’s an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off – mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice aren’t exactly conventional ingredients. Don’t bother checking, they aren’t listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

A complex but great aroma of citrus, pineapple and tropical fruits. Pours a slightly hazy caramel color with a lasting head with nice lacing. The taste is well balanced between a fruity sweetness with just a hint of bitterness. Notes of citrus, apricot, caramel and a hint of pepper. Medium body with a lightly bitter finish with a hint of spice.

A 330ml can with a best before date of 19th August 2016 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a clear copper amber colour with just over a one finger off white head that dissipates slowly but leaves nice lacing. Aromas were tropical fruit strong with mango, pineapples and peach floating about with some light citrus and chili. Tastes very interesting. Not at all what I expected but in a good way. Grapefruit bitterness and caramel start strongly before slowly being lightly muted by a refreshing cooling mint coating, some tropical mango and ever so light chili spice. Mid to light bodied with light to medium carbonation. Overall an excellent brew. Very balanced between the hop bitterness, cooling mint and light spiciness. The carbonation was on the low side to what I prefer, but the cooling mint helps to rectify this. I loved this… must buy again in my book.

Hoppy, oily, spicy aroma. Quite nice. In taste it’s too much malty definitely, to sweet, and a bit of butter flavour too. The other side, the spices, the hops, the bitterness is nice and pleasant but the sweetness is to big, spoils the whole taste. Nice medium mouthfeel. In overall it’s a good beer, quite specific, a bit strange but good.

Bottle 0.65l from New Zealand, many thanks to Vallun and his friend. Cloudy, orange to red colored. AROMA- sweet, tropical fruit, citrusy and spicy hops. FLAVOR- semi-dry, bitter, tropical fruit, finish is somewhat hot due to chilli. Medium to full bodied.
Very good one, but, unfortunately, fruitiness is a bit overhelmed by the chilli.

Bottle. Orange hazy body, medium white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, paprica, malts. Taste is stronly bitter, semi-sweet, hot chilli finish. Tropical fruits, berries, herbs, chilli. Medium body and carbonation.
Nice hopped spice IPA, but without chilli it would be better.

Hazy orange with a nice white head. Strong aroma of citrus, mango, hops. Taste get more complex with mango, spices, chilli, loads of hops for a very balanced and tasty ale. Medium body, bitter finish. Awesome.
