This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you havenít you should. It could be life changing. Itís an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off Ė mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice arenít exactly conventional ingredients. Donít bother checking, they arenít listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

From the can, BB 05/09/15. Pours a hazy amber with a wispy off-white head. Aroma: Grapefruit peel, orange, and mango. Taste is of orange juice, alcohol, citrus pith, and some mild balance from caramel malts. I donít get most of the special ingredients (mint and chilis). The finish is quite lasting and bitter.

An interesting beer as the mango, mint and chilli add a more complex aftertaste, not sure if Iíd choose it over another hoppy IPA or IIPA though, great stuff nonetheless.

650 ml bottle. Slightly hazy orange body with a medium sized off-white head. Nice, strong hoppy aroma, mostly pine and grass with citric fruit in the background. Flavor is medium sweet malt, some caramel, green pepper, some fruit and strong grassy hop bitterness. Well balanced body for the hoppy style and long bitter aftertaste. Not super complex, but very refreshing, quaffable and rather moorish. Like it a lot.

650ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika. Shared with Finn and his neighbours next door. Apricot coloured body, pearl white head. Aroma of orange, apricot and a spicy bite. Dried fruity flavours, hints of pine, basement, and forest. Mild yeasty fruitiness to a chili finish. Fine bodied. Has got some moments of interests (TromsÝ 04.11.2014).

Hazy golden beer with a nice heavy off-white head. Smells like a tropical salad in a Thai restaurant. Big melon and passionfruit mixed with coriander and sweet red chili. Fresh and bitter, really fruity, watermelon, passionfruit and massive pine resins. In the mix is a really thai inspired flavour, slightly spicy chili and coriander pepper, all on top of a bready malt backing. The finish is mildly bitter and fresh, very think malt and a slight chili heat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Aroma a strong point - taste is decent but perhaps a little too much bitterness to complement the exotic ingredients? Itís a good beer but it seems that others have seen more in it than I did. Maybe Iíll give it a second chance in the future
