This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you havenít you should. It could be life changing. Itís an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off Ė mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice arenít exactly conventional ingredients. Donít bother checking, they arenít listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

Can. Pours golden with white head. Amazing aroma. Sweet, hoppy, pine nuts, blueberry. Taste is sweet like peanut butter and syrup on toast. Bitter mouthwatering aftertaste.

To tell the truth, I opened this beer by accident. I meant to open something a little less assertive to have with my tin of Irish stew. I reached into the fridge, grabbed the wrong can and ripped open the top. My initial reaction was "Oh, bugger." my final reaction was "Oh, good." After my meal this beer cut through the fattiness of the stale horse meat (I jest. It probably wasnít horse... as far as I know). It looks reddish amber with a temporary cream covered head. It has good clarity and smells of rich herbal hoppiness and resinous American hops. This is the evident flavour along with a gently prickly mouthfeel. The bitterness is even and definite. You know youíre inhaling a classic IPA. If youíre lucky enough to burp while drinking this, youíll understand how this is a good match for flavoursome and spicy foods. Yes. More please.

65 cl bottle from vinmonopolet Asker. Pours hazy dark golden with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, pineapple, mango and some malty notes. Flavour is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long fresh tropical fruity and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Quite an interesting ipa with a small twist.

Hazy amber with white head. Aroma is very fruitful. Pepper, topical fruit, mango, mint and citrus. Slick palate. Aftertaste is dry, fruity, peppery/hot and lingering hop bitterness. Overall: A very nice experimental beer. Fruity and meaty, would fit perfectly with a red beef. Maybe too peppery and hot.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a creamy off white head. The aroma is high spicy exotic hops with loads of peach, passion fruit, gooseberry and citrus. Wow! The flavour is peaches, passion fruit, grass, grapefruit, gooseberry and a great malty backbone.
