COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you havenít you should. It could be life changing. Itís an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off Ė mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice arenít exactly conventional ingredients. Donít bother checking, they arenít listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

A very interesting beer, deep orange in colour with a very tiny head, mild aroma and intriguing flavours. Lingering taste of ginger at the back. I like it.

Bottle from a ferry to Ňland. Hoppy smell. Hoppy taste with grapefruit, pine and some citrus. Malty backbone with some caramel. Hop forward. Nice strong bitterness.

Can shared at The Cadís 10 year get together. Thanks to Wingman Dave 29/03/2015. Nice golden / orange coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is big dank hop, funky orange, pine and citrus hop. Flavour is composed of tobacco, pine, dank, some tangerine, resin. Palate is sticky hop resin on the tongue, moderate carbonation. Pretty good.

Can from World Beer Market via Rakuten. A deep copper-red with a pleasing aroma of peaches and passionfruit with some earthy pine. Soft round mouthfeel on a medium body. The taste is bitter piney and prickles my tastebuds at first. As it opens up you get mango, lime, a sort of chutney like spiciness maybe from the chilis? Interestingly the mint is evident in the aftertaste. Let this warm up to discover the balanced promised on the can. Good.

On draught at the 28th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival. Very citrus forward hop profile. There is a slight chili presence and some mango.

Tropical fruit, apricot, caramel nose. Mild carb, oily palate. Upfront bitterness and sweet caramel, citrus notes, tropical fruit, very slight building warmth from chilli and herbal note from the mint in the finish. A great beer, but rather than focusing and drowning out the base beer with adjuncts, it uses them to enhance. I respect it for this but still found it slightly underwhelming.

Can shared during the Cadís 10th anniversary bash - Clerkenwell, London. Pours clear, deep golden brown with a creamy white head. Juicy citrus and tropical fruits nose with accents of pine. Medium sweet flavor with some bready malts, oily pine, papaya, orange. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish with further pine, grassy spice, meaty hops, ripe orange. Quite good.

Bottle at Crafty Cow at their Garage Project event. Clear bright amber pour. Off-white creamy sudsy head with thick legs. Smells of NZ hops, some lime/lemon and mango and mint. Like a Tuatara Double Trouble (?). Tastes of very resinous hop, herbal mint, citric grassiness. Vietnamese mango salad flavours more evident in the taste than the aroma. Can kind of taste some chili in the finish but not sure if I'd be able to pinpoint it had I not known it was an ingredient. Body is crisp, stony, very resinous with a citric herbal fizziness. Big hoppy resinous beer and an interesting concept.

HKdIPA (469) - HONG KONG - JUN 20, 2015
Bottle at Crafty Cow Garage Project event. Clear dark ruby amber pour dense thin head. Aroma is aggressively resinous hops but not that big (like Double Trouble but not as strong). Hard to taste the mango chili lime additions at first beneath the big hoppiness, but comes out as it warms a bit. Not sure I'm a fan of the mango, which adds a detectably over ripe fruit flavor, the mint which adds a herbaceousness to the hops which I don't really like. Chili adds a slight burn on the finish, which isn't unpleasant. A nice big hoppy IPA (could be DIPA with the big flavor and palate) and while I appreciate the flavor pairing with Vietnamese food, I don't think the additional ingredients improve the beer.

Hazy amber body with a low white head. Grapefruit, spices, passionfruit, lime and mango. The chili is too well hidden.

Bottle, BBE 28/06/15, 06/06/15, thanks bluus. Pours amber with a small, off-white head. Aroma is pineapple, caramel, some citrus. Taste is caramel, pine, resin, pineapple, fairly dry and bitter. Not so fresh anymore. Fairly full with high carbonation. Not fresh anymore, but still very enjoyable. Probably great off the line.
