Hapi Daze. It’s a prototype for a possible future session ale, but in this early form at 5.4% ABV it’s a little strong to be considered a session beer.

Tasted on tap from Cassel’s in Christchurch. Slightly hazy golden yellow with a white head that sunk into a film on top of the body. Smells quite strongly of passionfruit and grapefruit with some light malts coming through. In the mouth it is prickly and gives flavours of tropical fruits followed closely by a blast of hoppy bitterness. More guava, grape and lychee make themselves known in a finish that is long and likeable.

From a can. Super fruity passionfruit and mango aroma, pours cloudy orange, tiny head, fresh and crisp. Very, very, nice.

This can comes in 4.6% ABV. Pours golden red, hazy with tall but shortlasting head. Nice aromas to the nose, peach and ananas, dried cut grass, pine and spruce sprouts. Lots going on. Medium to high bitterness, fresh and crisp, spruce ans resins. As often with hop intense pale ales this one is somewhat onedimensional (yet complex in that dimension!), its all about the hops. But still a nice one.

33 cl can. Nice hizz when opened, foam present. Beautiful golden, slightly hazy, two to three fingers slightly off-white head. A tiny amount of sediments from the can, a bit surprising but it doesn’t spoil anything. Bread from the malts, citrus/orange notes from the NZ hops, smells like a refreshing blonde. Would benefit from a slice of lime in the glass, for sure. Very refreshing, bitter and carbonated body, long aftertaste from the different hops, of which I’ve only expreienced the Nelson Sauvin before. At 4,6% ABV it’s readily available in the Norwegian grocery stores, reasonably priced. Enjoyed this, will buy more of them.

Can from Craft Beer Base. L: pours a gold/amber, reasonably clear, nice big white head that falls away quickly, some lacing. S: a nice tropical fruity aroma backed by biscuity malt, a little hop tang on the nose too. T: a full hoppy bitter start with a nice fruity mix, comes off watery midway but the hop lingers. F: nice fizz, decent bite, light and refreshing. O: nothing surprising coming through, but it is a tasty, nicely-hopped ale.

330 ml boks fra Meny, Mandal. Tåkete gyllen med hvitt skum. Frisk nektar, tropisk frukt og furutoner blant duftene. Salt, fruktig bitter og med en behagelig ettersmak. Medium fylde. Tørr tunge.

Hāpi Daze is a Pacific Pale Ale (made with Waitu, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka & Riwaka NZ hops) that pours a gloriously clear copper gold with a huge hop bouquet of prickly pine and luscious tropical fruit (guava comes to mind). It has a medium body and is really quite bitter with a mouth-puckering finish. Straight from the fridge the taste is minty pine and forest smells that sharply contrast with the earlier tropical aroma. Tasty but it threw me for a loop. Once it warms up you get more sweet fruity notes and a lingering sweetness in the finish. What’s the ABV on this? 4.6% sold, I like this it is a damn flavorful and original(as I’ve never had quite a few of the hops in it) pale ale. Try it if you see it. Great label too.

Bottle from SB. Very nice taste and aroma, especially considering the relatively low abv. Good!

Canned, good head, lots of American Hops aroma hits my nose. Taste is the same, American Hops all the way. Good thirst quenching pale ale.
