This brew is as red and quirky as the local transportation from which it draws its name. The Kawakawa, with its heart shaped, hole covered leaves has traditionally been used to make a ícure allí tonic. Found sprouting in profusion alongside the cable carís tracks the leaves are infused in the boil, lending the beer a unique, sweet pepper and spice aroma, and a distinctive bitterness balanced by the rich, red sweetness of Munich, Melanoidin and caramel malts.

Bottle. The pepperiness comes through nicely on the pallet, quickly following the initial sweetness. Delicious swirling away in the mouth.

Dark red in colour with big fluffy white head, sprucy aroma, hint of pepper. Peppery flavour with aniseed and spearmint. Shockingly pleasant.

Pours amber. Candy, fruit (cherry) sweetness, roast malt and a little pepper in the aroma. This beers standout is a lovely smooth mouthfeel and perfectly balanced body, its all roastiness. A lovely warming caramel malt finish complements the sweetness up front very nicely. Another good beer from this series.
