The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

Golden-orange, medium white head. Strong aroma of mango, peach and grapefruit. Taste adds pineapple, pine, malt. Then the hops explosion. Very well balanced and very testy, smooth, creamy. Masterpiece!

A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th March 2016 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a slightly hazy golden orange with a two finger off white head that dissipated fairly quickly leaving some nice lacing. Aromas were of strong tropical fruity mango and pineapple with pine, grapefruit and grassy notes. Taste was bitter citrus grapefruit, pine and grass with some light malt sweetness. However, at times, the alcohol booze seemed to creep out. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, this was a pretty good DIPA, but as a DIPA, I’d prefer if it was able to completely hide the alcohol taste, but other than that, it was nice and bitter.

Hazy, sunburned orange with a good sized slightly off white head. Aroma is very grassy, with pine, oily hop and mango noted. Resinous hops, pine, grass, grapefruit and citrus flavours, the bitterness just keep growing. Really dense mouthfeel, thick bodied and well carbonated. It’s oily, resinous and almost chewy. Awesome. Can shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Big thanks to Big Dave! Pours clearish gold. Lovely dank hops define this beer, with lots of grapefruit and urine in particular. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky and resinous on the finish, with some pine, piss, citrus fruits. Big and dank, but still balanced and highly drinkable. Outstanding.

Uklart gulbrunt med kompakt hvitt skum. Masse ananas, sitrus og noe urter. Smaken er sammen med frukten dominert av karamell og nøtter. Herlig tykk og stikkende munnfølelse.

650mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB 14/4/2016 Pours quite a hazy pale peach sort of body, creamy white head. Nose is good, really good! Resiny as all buggery, very grass, leafy, spicy, non-descript tropical fruits - malt takes a backseat, touch of biscuit there. Texture is oily, slick, resiny once again, lingers long on the palate, distractingly so - where’d that booze go!? Hop-slposion on the body - more fruity that the aroma - stonefruits, ripe tropicals, fruit salad I guess you could say but still very resiny/leafy/grass, touch of woody spice later on. Touch of biscuity malt tries its best but BOOM BITTERNESS - relentless, all conquering, alluding, lovely. Killer beer! Big flavours, hops aplenty!
