The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

2016-05-17. Lightly hazy orange body with a small white head. 3+ Aroma has nice fruity hoppy character, citrus maybe mango? 7+ Flavour is pleasantly hoppy, nice fruity character, some citrus and a melange of fruit that escapes my dissection today. Moderate bitterness throughout grows as you go a bit. 7++ Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. 7/3-4/7+/3/16-17 On tap at Smith’s, Queenstown, NZ.

Can. A golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, caramel, citrus fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, malt, caramel, and over ripe fruits, leading to a bitter finish.

Can from SB. Soft hazy golden with a short head. Aroma: Grapefruit and cat piss/white wine, typical nelson sauvain, biscuits and honey cookies, carambola and orange peel. Sweet hoppy fruity flavour with grapefruit, oranges, carambola and elderflower, caramel and biscuits. Grassy-piney finish. Medium bodied, soft carb, soft - oily texture. It’s quite balanced actually. Nelson Sauvain is a kick ass hop. Makes me think of how Brwdogs Punk IPA used to be.
