The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

Pours nice orange, white foam. Aroma is fruity-hoppy, loads of mangos. Nelson is in action. Taste is also resinous, loads of tropical fruits, mangoes and piney bitterness. A lot of it. Great beer.

Bottle from Tanakaya shared at a tasting. Hazy copper with a nice soapy head. Aromas of ruby red grapefruit, peach and mango with some grassy and herbal notes as well. Taste is very similar to the nose with a hint of sweetness and nice lingering bitterness. Not overly sweet like some IIPAs. Very good.

Stort bemvitt huve! Grumlig, bärnstensfärg. Doft av kåda, Grapefruit & tallbarr. Mumsig smak av sötma från alkohol å malt blandad med en rejäl beska som balanseras in bra, toner av grapefrukt & kåda, besk fint eftersmak ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Bottle Shop, drank after Galapagos Omnimax. Hazy orange-amber pour. Thin white fizzy head. Smells very nice. Jackfruit, peach, tropical fruit, apricot, dry soapy hop (detergent/cleaning product but not in a bad way), a bit minty, lightly spiced maple syrup malt, booze. Tastes of very dry resinous hop, dry frothy finish. Body is spicy, slick, medium, herbal bitterness. NZ fruity hop in the nose and West Coast dry resinous hop in the taste.

Bottle from Bottle Shop at home. Seems like best Garage Project beer so far after a couple of so so ones (Sauvin Noveau excepted). Hazy dark orange cooper pour. Aroma is lemon zest, resin, soap - good hoppiness. Some of that NZ-style fruity aromas too. Really nice aroma. Taste is more west coast IPA-ish, big deep pine resin hops - very bitter - not much in malty sweetness to balance. But delicious. Lasting piney bitterness with some warm booze. Great DIPA. Not too huge but nice and sharp.

Bomber. Thanks, wombata. The Nelson and Rakau mix is pungentand cat pissy, with big ripe peaches. Mild blondish color. Solid bitter initial, with tropical fruit entering quickly, apricots with bitter pits. Medium body. Very tasty stiff.

Bottle. Dark gold, cloudy, fine lace. Grassy, herbal nose, crackery, somewhat pissy, pot. Herbal, grassy flavor, catpiss, dry finish. Very nice malt balance--even but no syrupy sweetness. Very nice.

On tap @ voyager, kumamoto. Pours slightly hazy pale gold with rocky white head. Aroma is big piney and dank hops, fruity but not so citrusy, slight grassiness and breadiness. Big bright hop flavors, grassy and herbal in nature. A nice fresh-hopped IIPA that could use a little more backbone and body to round it out. Drinks almost like a super hoppy session.

Poors a clear hay with minimal head. Aroma is not as big as I was expecting but very pleasant and floral. Taste is bitter sweet very very smooth and the glass disappears just a little to quickly. Another tasty beer over all.
