Venusian Pale Ale, a precocious little number using some of the more unusual local flora and fauna you find hanging around here in the less civilized parts of the solar system. Lemon grass, kaffir lime leaf and grapefruit peel that we pinched from rations, meld seamlessly with Venusian Spear Fungus and that funny green stuff the local chappies seem to like licking off the rocks. Zesty is the word that springs to mind and at 7.3% abv it’s bloody good for morale. Incidentally, it works just like napalm on the natives, which is handy.

750 ml. Bottle. Pours clear orange with a creamy, off-white head. Interesting aroma with hints of lime and coriander. Floral, malty flavor, decently sweet then quickly to herby bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel. Overall, really interesting pale ale. Liking the way experiment.

[8375-20160529] Tap. Light fruity grains aroma. Clear, orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Bitter floral hops flavour has a funny sweetened candy lime-ish finish. Full body. Heavy and unexpected something up front (lime?), but finishes light and bitter. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

2016-05-29. Lightly hazy dark golden amber body with a smallish beige head. 3+ Aroma is mild, muted fruit, hints of lavender are ephemeral. Green hops and something I can’t pin down. 6+ Flavour is lightly bitter and oddly fruity up front, green veg like what I imagine a big juicy plant leaf is like, green hops, smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. 6/3/7/3/12-14 On tap at Garage Project - Aro 91, Wellington, NZ.

On tap at The Local Melbourne, pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of floral notes along with lots of perfume. Flavour is quite robust, with lots of floral hops, a touch of perfume and dry biscuity notes. Robust and floral hoppy. Excellent.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2016 Blimey. This is a memorable beer, best for sharing. The aroma starts with massive lemon grass and then the kaffir lime leaves kick in almost immediately, before mellowing out with a citrus and mildly bitter aftertaste. It is exactly as described on the label, except maybe the bit about Venusian Spear Fungus.

Bottle. Pours very slightly hazy golden, with a small creamy head. Aroma is hoppy, with tropical notes, lemon grass, citrusy notes of sweet orange and grapefruit peel, as well as some grass and soapy coriander. Medium to full body, with average carbonation. Flavour is bitter hops, with pine and grapefruit, tropical notes of apricots, mango, pineapple and stone fruits, and some spicy herbal notes, as well as some nice balancing malts. Lingering citrusy bitter finish.
