Venusian Pale Ale, a precocious little number using some of the more unusual local flora and fauna you find hanging around here in the less civilized parts of the solar system. Lemon grass, kaffir lime leaf and grapefruit peel that we pinched from rations, meld seamlessly with Venusian Spear Fungus and that funny green stuff the local chappies seem to like licking off the rocks. Zesty is the word that springs to mind and at 7.3% abv it’s bloody good for morale. Incidentally, it works just like napalm on the natives, which is handy.

Initial thoughts that this was a solid base beer with the extra ingredients not altogether helping out too much, the alcohol wasn’t noticeable at all which made it a bit dangerous. Easily drinkable, pleasant unique aroma, fairly enjoyable but just seems dumbed down a bit.

650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 7.5%. Ingredients include lemongrass, coriander, kaffir lime, lemon and grapefruit peel. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of lemongrass, coriander and citrus fruits / citrus peel. Spicy and citrussy flavour, with distinct notes of said ingredients. Hoppy and spicy finish. Refreshing and enjoyable. Would buy again.

Sample from bottle at Beer14. Pours hazy deep golden with some sediments and white head. Slightly yeasty and quite fruity aroma with hopy notes, citrus and spices. Medium to moderate sweet. Slightly strange, but quite drinkable.

Light on colour but lacking nothing in taste. Complex flavours eventually give way to a long, lingeringly luscious, bitter finish.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2014 I enjoyed this a lot. Low in malt, great hops. Alcohol doesn’t come through... dangerous! Not complex but very drinkable. Would have this again... and again! 7 Jun 2014 - this batch more complex - more malty but well balanced - the kaffir lime comes through. Bloody fantastic.
