Quite a nice barleywine. No overly sweet but full malt flavor. On the thin end but best french beer I’ve had.

Bottled, from La Cave à Bulles, Paris. Cloudy copper colour, small head. Aroma of honey, apples and white pepper. Sweet with full body . Lots of caramel and alcohol, especially in the finish. Too sweet and alcoholic.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
33cl bottle, big thanks to sebletitje for picking this up for me, pours with a clear deep copper body that supports a fairly tight tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a mix of sticky sweet malts, caramel, molasses, a bit of toffee and chocolate malts where the chocolate note seems out of place yet still works here nicely somehow. In the background I also get prunes and figs and a bit of black pepper as well as a modest sense of booze especially for such a huge beer. The taste asserts itself as a smooth slick sipper where I get prunes and raisins moving into slightly brighter notes of spicy Belgian yeast. Behind those notes is a smooth sweet caramel and maltiness and slivers of toffee. I’m really enjoying this sipper. Yum.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared. Pours hazy brown with tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, spice, straw and light alcohol. Flavour is fairly heavy sweet. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Fairly nice, but the ABV is too high.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours hazy mahogany into a snifter. White head quickly recedes to mottle surface. Toffee and pit fruit aromas. Dark caramel and toasted nuts upfront turning warm in the lasting resin and chestnut finish.

from cave à bulles, paris. 18 months old bottle. pours hazy dark copper with a relatively small beige head, little retention. loads of caramel and toffee, some wood, booze (but very well hidden for more than 12%) and fruitiness. few spices - tingling pepper and booze. soft carbonation, light to medium body, decent grassy-spicy finish - nice mouthfeel. nice BW from france.
