COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Note: Formerly at 8.5%.

fiulijn (10421) - Como, - JUL 12, 2008
Bottle from La Cave à Bulles, Paris
Cloudy dark amber color; thin head. It has a medium body strength, some residual sweetness, some caramel flavor, and low bitterness. It seems a quite ordinary Dubbel, but there is a dubious light sourness (a fermentation problem?); it turns out being more easily drinkable, because of the sourness.

Bottle at home in London with Paul and Lyoli. Lightly cloudy ruby with a moderate, foamy head. Light age to the malts, lots of sweet bread, caramel, toasty sugars. Big sweet flavor, some booze, light candy, honey, sweet bread. Full bodied with average carbonation. Moderate warm finish, deep sugar, heavy bread, candy, some ripe fruits. It’s alright. A bit heavy-handed on some fronts. Decent character. (The 11.2% version.)

A malty barley wine. Strong aroma of malt, caramel, some DMS. Medium brown colour, decent head considering the ABV. Taste is a bit salty, and a bit sweet from fusel alcohols and caramel malt. Body is full. Alcohol dominates the finish.

An 8.5% bottle from La Cave A Bulles. Hazy red brown beer, small off white head. Silky palate. Semi dry. Rich malt - very porty with a hint of sherry as well. A little bit of aged malt and then a little aniseedy alcohol at the very finish. Throughout the beer is the smooth and sweet porty malt. Different and very tasty.

Cloudy brown color. Butterscotch, strawberries, icing sugar and milk chocolate in the nose. Very malty mouth. Lots of orange notes and icing sugar. Really strange brew I can’t pinpoint, though not without positive merits. Hard to describe.
