Bottle was tough to open first of all. Bad wax job. They used plastic instead of wax. Just be careful when you open it. This looks like sewer water. Cloudy and sludge like. Aroma is pretty boozy. Lots of warming notes of alcohol. Mouth stings a bit, but has a slight creaminess to it. Taste is really unique. Some fruit, some alcohol. Almost an orange taste to it. Not terrible, but not overly good either.

330mL black wax from Cave a Bulles. Expensive bottle. Wax job is actually melted plastic that requires a sledge hammer to get off. Fragments of very sharp shards of melted plastic explode in 100 directions and make a ridiculous, insane mess of the room. Shards enter the bottle upon opening requiring the beer to go through a mesh filter. Idiotic wax job.
Flat, murky brown pour. Nose is 100% oxidized with heavy acetaldehyde and old red apple slices. Taste is tangy, metallic, incredibly bland. No flavor here at all and no palate whatsoever. The most expensive dirty pool water I’ve ever accidentally gulped.

33cl bottle. Dark brown in color with a small tannish head. Big cognac aroma with some roasty and chocolate malt and oak. Light flavor for what it is, some roast, caramel, and sherry, with oak and cognac. Thin on the palate with low carbonation. A bit weak of a base beer for the barrel aging, but has some good flavors happening.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a cloudy opaque brown with a rough off-white head. Sweet aroma of overripe dark fruit and an oxidized woodiness. Solid body, very low carbonation, roast, dark overripe fruits, wood and a slight tartness. Hardly any hops. A very rustic beer. 090212

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a thin lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of cognac, malt, alcohol, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, cognac, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6730) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 25, 2011
Small yellowish-cream head, fast gone over black beer with some foxy-brown highlights. Very vinous nose, old wine casks, and in the finish, a nice smoked, near peaty touch, giving it an Islay touch, if very subtle. Again smoked-peaty touches, black chocolate and much less vinous than the nose announced. Warming up even a bit of smoked ham, touch of saltiness (smokesalt), but mainly sweetish-dry. Obvious alcoholburn, very slick-oily. Balance achieved pretty late. Very good, if unspectacular barrel-aged beer, but very layered-complex. And yet another with the utterly superfluous and annoying laquered stop - SILLY! Grand merci à Jean, entretemps!
