Aroma is very sweet: sweet malt, dark fruits, berries, and molasses. This really smells more like an old ale. Flavor is also very sweet. Notable malt and dried fruits up front. A bit cloying. Im not sure if my bottle has some age on it, but I am not detecting the hops that others have mentioned. It would be nice because this is just too sweet for me. Finish is sweet with hints of smoke and tobacco.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Deep, golden brown. Dark tan head, goes away quickly. Mild, resiny hop notes, charcoal and molasses, crispy toasted yeastish(is that a word?) aroma. Flavor earthy with spice hints, alcohol aftertaste. Medium to thick body. Improves as it warms, warms you up from the inside as well... YUM blankboy (3264), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2009 My bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o tupalev. Pours a dark, deep brown with an average size tan head. Mild aroma of lightly roasted malt, caramel, some alcohol and a hint of coffee. Flavour is different then expected but I like it: Roasty with slightly burnt caramel, light green hops, some dark fruit and some maple syrup. Medium to full bodied. Pretty good, perhaps not quite on style but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Brigadier (1260), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

Thanks to jerc for giving me a bottle of this. It was so tempting that it moved right to the front of the queue. All told it was actually a solid baltic porter. Not heavy on the palate despite the ABV it makes for a nice nightcap.
Aroma / Appearance - Short lived the beige head collapsed like a sandcastle at high tide. The black fluid base soon took over the full glass. Dark and bittersweet chocolate, blackberry, smoke, and airy coffee complement each other nicely. Well balanced and thought out it is clear some craft and care went into this one. The ashy finish is the cherry on top of a solid product. matt7215 (1002), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2009 500mL bottle at a casual Saturday afternoon tasting with matt7215. Bottle from Jeff, thanks to both of you guys. Pours a deep dark reddish-brown that is mostly clear, but with a bit of sediment. Aroma is very much in line with an Imperial Stout. Anise, chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, ink, molasses and toffee, minor booze. Flavour is a a seemless blend of all of the above, nice fuller-feeling palate and definitely rich and satisfying. Not terribly complex, but very tasty and well brewed. A nice standard rendition of a Baltic Porter. Hard to believe this is a Canadian beer! tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2009 Bottle # 4 of my solo Garrison 5 beer sampler, thanks to C & K! Black, nice thin brown head. Boozy aroma, slightly sour, some chocolate. Taste - whoa, big alcohol up front and more the finish (along with a pleasant roasty linger). In between this one is all over the place - roast, big metallic notes, lactose, and again, way too much unbalanced alcohol. Successful Baltics balance the alcohol with a silky smooth body but this one is too light and fizzy to handle all of this. A nice flavourful effort but it misses the mark. Great effort though, very few of these even being tried in this country. After saying all of this, I did enjoy it.
