200 rating. Wow what can I say about this amazing brew? Draught at Bar Volo Toronto. Pours midnight dark black with dark tan head, no real lacing. Aroma was alcohol and creaminess, with a hint of cherry. Taste was coffee, maybe some vanilla, bitter, smokey and a bite like a good port. Great brew, can’t wait to have it again.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 toffsbury (65) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2012
Deep dark brown with a thin, oily head. Delicious candy aroma, sweet and rich. Thick texture and sweet full flavor of port, caramel, complex loveliness. No hops to speak of, very little in the way of battering. Very nice for dessert; would really wait till after dinner to drink this.

500ml bottle
9.0% ABV
I tried this beer on June 3, 2011 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a deep black colour with a thin brown head into a tulip glass. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and molasses. The mouthfeel was full with mild carbonation. The flavour was more pronounced in the molasses direction with the coffee tones taking a back seat, but still there.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2012 What a beautiful beer in all respects. Frothy head, grand aromas of malt, chocolate, dark fruit and only a hint on the mouth of the alcohol strength.
Update Feb 2012: Still lovely beer. A bit light in the mouth but otherwise outstanding. Also getting molasses.

One of the toastiest beers I have ever had. Maybe they started with an IPA and threw it on the campfire? The flavours are sharp here, not much intermingling but a duel to the death between the roastiness and the hops. Definitely NOT a session brew, but just an ephemeral experience for your gullet.

Deep, golden brown. Dark tan head, goes away quickly. Mild, resiny hop notes, charcoal and molasses, crispy toasted yeastish(is that a word?) aroma. Flavor earthy with spice hints, alcohol aftertaste. Medium to thick body. Improves as it warms, warms you up from the inside as well... YUM

App.: Deep brown-black with a nice, dense tan head.

Palate: Medium-full body, restrained effervescence.
Flav.: Really big, beautiful dark chocolate, huge molasses and licorice, a touch of brine or soy sauce, lots of dark dried fruits, some leafy hops, huge and beautiful; sweet with sufficient bitterness, vanilla, chocolate, etc., dark dried fruits, long residual molasses and licorice, alcohol, beautiful.
Grand indeed!

500 ml bottle from tupalev. thx jeff. pours dark brown with a short tan head. big roasted malt nose. the flavour was similarily of dark roasted malt. really this is an imperial stout that has been lagered. almost as good as the smutty nose baltic but not quite that good. solid beer all around with nothing much that stands out. id buy it regularily if local.

A deep dark porter with a super thick, creamy and onctuous brown head. In aroma, herbaceous chocolate, dark fruits, light iron notes, very nice. In mouth, a superb sweet caramelized chocolate, with light soy sauce, fudge, alcohol warmth, coffee grind, briney notes, very nice, rich and intense. Bottle shared with probstk, Aug. 21 2011.Merci Karl!
