COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Launched and enthusiastically received at the first annual Halifax Seaport Beer Fest in August 2007, this ale has quickly become known as the hoppiest beer in Atlantic Canada! Imperial Pale Ale is a robust, medium bodied west coast style ale with a lingering hop bitterness complimented by a malty caramel backbone and a strong citrus character. This beer is for the true hophead!

Tasted in Toronto. Picked up in Halifax. Damn, I love this f’ing town. It is a city built and developed fro Ed Heffernan. Christ, I am Irish. Christ. Nice wicked bitter flavour, bile and liver juice and such. Really wonderful. Like suckingling the mender from a swollen cows livers juices. So wonderful. I have had some more bitter IPAs, but certainly not from Halifax. Good Job boys.

A gorgeous muddy orange body with a huge orange head, wonderful retention. Nose is delicious: caramel, fresh pine, lemon and orange zest, coriander, tons of hops, dried apricot. Taste is piney hops, yeast, nutmeg, banana, coriander, wormwood, a good bitterness finish, but not overwhelming, smooth and oily. Very powerful and tasty brew at only 7% ABV

Pours a reddish amber with an almost creamy white head. On the nose its citrus, hoppy, grapefruit. Taste is big grapefruit, citrus hops but not to bitter. At 7% a great IPA yay Nova Scotia! $5.99 for 500ml bottle.

(500mL from LCBO) Pours a hazy amber with an inch of dense whitish head that left a little lacing. Aroma a blend of citrusy hops flavours, a bit of pine and a fairly strong caramel malt note underneath, a little grainy. In the mouth a bunch of citrusy hops present initially, followed up by pine resin and caramel malt flavours letting just a bit of sweetness through. Dries down rapidly with bitter, astringent hops and a bit of a metallic tang (from the lack of filtration?). Mouthfeel medium-full, sticky, soft carbonation, little detectable alcohol. A good IPA but not up to US standards, a little muddled and not as fruity as I like.

Pours a hazy light orange with a medium mostly diminishing light tan head. There was some sediment in the bottle so that made its way into the glass as well. Inviting aroma, medium intensity with a nose of malty, hoppy citrus, with a bit of earthy aromas as well, kind of muddy. Fairly intense with medium aftertaste, and a medium body. Bitterness starts off strong with the floral pedal-like hops flavor common in IPA’s. Mildly acidic tasting with a citrus of orange and grapefruit. Round thin texture with a rich well balanced complex quality. Appreciated.
