3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JCB (3105) - Durham, USA - JUN 24, 2010
Bottle from Boutip - thanks, Phil! Faintly cloudy pour, deep orange to amber, with a nice lively carbonation and a moderate foamy head. Strong bitter notes immediately present in the nose, which expands to reveal floral hops and a decidedly muscular malt presence as well. Medium bodied, with a strongly oily finish. Taste is largely dry and bitter, but the strong malt presence frames things with almost a honey and bread flavor, like a toned down Hopslam from an earlier batch in some sense. Decent.

A gorgeous muddy orange body with a huge orange head, wonderful retention. Nose is delicious: caramel, fresh pine, lemon and orange zest, coriander, tons of hops, dried apricot. Taste is piney hops, yeast, nutmeg, banana, coriander, wormwood, a good bitterness finish, but not overwhelming, smooth and oily. Very powerful and tasty brew at only 7% ABV

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neongolden (62) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 19, 2012
(500mL from LCBO) Pours a hazy amber with an inch of dense whitish head that left a little lacing. Aroma a blend of citrusy hops flavours, a bit of pine and a fairly strong caramel malt note underneath, a little grainy. In the mouth a bunch of citrusy hops present initially, followed up by pine resin and caramel malt flavours letting just a bit of sweetness through. Dries down rapidly with bitter, astringent hops and a bit of a metallic tang (from the lack of filtration?). Mouthfeel medium-full, sticky, soft carbonation, little detectable alcohol. A good IPA but not up to US standards, a little muddled and not as fruity as I like.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Appreciator (26) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 17, 2012
Pours a hazy light orange with a medium mostly diminishing light tan head. There was some sediment in the bottle so that made its way into the glass as well. Inviting aroma, medium intensity with a nose of malty, hoppy citrus, with a bit of earthy aromas as well, kind of muddy. Fairly intense with medium aftertaste, and a medium body. Bitterness starts off strong with the floral pedal-like hops flavor common in IPA’s. Mildly acidic tasting with a citrus of orange and grapefruit. Round thin texture with a rich well balanced complex quality. Appreciated.
