COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Heavily roasted malts and full bodied taste characterize this darkest of traditional brews. Martello Stout is uncompromisingly bold like the unique towers which defended our early maritime shores.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 Very dark brown. Roasty stout nose with some late hop. Dry, hoppy stout...the finish is roasty and chocolatey. Perhaps a bit thin but decent.

Courtesy of Sammy. It’s pitch black and the head is light brown and creamy. The aroma is rather light with notes of cocoa, chocolate and roasted malt. The flavour has a light sweetness and a light, slightly roasted bitterness. It has notes of licorice, coffee, caramel and hints of chocolate and dark fruits. It has a good body and power in the flavour even if it’s only 4,8% - it’s charming and uncomplicated.

Deep dark reddish black ale with a thin moka head. Light sweet roasted malt with raisiny overtones, vanilla and chocolate. Roasted malts comes out in mouth, with powdery chocolate, light hops in finish, but very little body for a stout. Very decent but thin, leaves you wanting more substance. Bought at Brewery March 2005.

341 ml bottle. Black beer with a thin but persistent brown head. Nice roasty aroma, some cassis/blackberry fruitiness. Flavour is chocolatey, with a touch of earthiness, light fruit, and a nice roastiness. Creamy body. Fruitiness intensifies as the beer warms.

My Bottom Line:
A frail countenance struggles to withhold a linear roastiness in this simple but soporific Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the brown-sleeved black.
-Some molasses sweetness attempts to support the roastiness.
-The low carbonation and thin maltiness make up a rather disappointing mouthfeel.
-Some raisiny fruitiness is found within.

Bottle.

Pours brown with tiny head. Some coffee grounds watered down with some beer. Marginally drinkable stout. Thanks TomThompson98 for my request.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, some coffee, chocolatey, peas. Tastes sweet and caramelly with some bitterness and a roasty finish.

Well fed dark beige head covers the dark coffee-coloured pour. Grainy roast from the nose is hampered by butterscotch diacetyl, certainly unusual for a stout. bordering this weird mix, leafy, earthy hops and darkened bread crust feel a bit tame, which would be alright for a relatively light stout, but a bit troublesome when the butteryness occupies some much room. In mouth, biting bubbles bring forth more than a little carbonic acid. The palate maintains its oily feel, but this is removed away by the agressive carbonation. Light astringency and toothpaste finish that seems to want to hint at fruits, but not having the energy to do so. Rather ordinary.

Black body with a very nice khaki head that dissipates. Aroma of coffee and very slight metallic notes. Flavour is dominated by very dry astringent (?) coffee grounds. Tastes like I imagine the results of squeezing out a coffee filter would. Palate is average but too thin for this beer. Not for me. Thanks for the bottle OKBeer.
