COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Heavily roasted malts and full bodied taste characterize this darkest of traditional brews. Martello Stout is uncompromisingly bold like the unique towers which defended our early maritime shores.

very sweet for a stout, but rich black in color. much lighter in taste and therefore much more accessible than Guiness. probably not for Stout connoisseurs, but still a very good beer

Bottle via jerc. Dark brown-black with a small tan head. Good aroma with notes of roast malt, coffee and a bit of smoke. Flavour follows, with the smoke notes becoming a bit more prominent in the finish. Good mouthfeel - a bit thin, perhaps, but more than acceptable. I’m going against the grain, I guess, ’cause I quite liked this one.

341ml brown bottle. Pours put a deep dark brown color with a decently formed, creamy beige head. Nice toasty nose with hints of strong dark coffee. Flavor is roasted malts and caramel and coffee. Finish has lots of roasted malt, iron notes. Medium, creamy mouthfeel. Nice.

Courtesy of Sammy. It’s pitch black and the head is light brown and creamy. The aroma is rather light with notes of cocoa, chocolate and roasted malt. The flavour has a light sweetness and a light, slightly roasted bitterness. It has notes of licorice, coffee, caramel and hints of chocolate and dark fruits. It has a good body and power in the flavour even if it’s only 4,8% - it’s charming and uncomplicated.

341 ml bottle. Black beer with a thin but persistent brown head. Nice roasty aroma, some cassis/blackberry fruitiness. Flavour is chocolatey, with a touch of earthiness, light fruit, and a nice roastiness. Creamy body. Fruitiness intensifies as the beer warms.

Bottle @ Atlantic Canada pavilion during Olympics. Pours black with brown head. Cinnamon and nutmeg scents add nuance to the nose. Soft creamy mouthfeel. the slight acidity in the finish is nice. Finishes toasty. Is a good straightforward stout.

500 ml bottle from Bishop’s Cellar (Halifax). Pours a very dark brown with good sized beige head and decent lace. Roasty, nutty aroma with some coffee. Taste is quite coffee-ish and bitter, almost sour, roasty with restrained nuttiness. Lingering bitterness. Good body especially for the ABV. Nice.

It pours a jet black color with a mocha head that vanishes to a thin ring. The aroma is mostly roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is similar to the aroma but with a few other things. I get roasted malt, chocolate, burnt coffee notes. It even has a little carmel. But with everything pushed in it still does feel a little thin. It finishes with a lot of roasted malt and a metallic taste. It does start out thin but picks up the pace in the end. It all makes for a pretty decent beer.
