HansJM (358), Norway Feb 13, 2005 Disappointing. After a promising start it falls through...well maybe the very small head should have given enough warning, but the aroma was OK. Starts out thin in the middle, but strong burned taste gradually builds up.Aftertaste is good.
glennmastrange (395), hobe sound, Florida, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle. I think I poured a different beer than everyone else on this page. Maybe Canadians just don’t dig the style. Heavy malt smells of dark bread, toasted and strong coffee, light earth for the yeast with raisin in the background and no noticable hop notes. Head was large, creamy, light brown that was mostly diminishing and had excellent lacing. Color is black. Flavor was lightly sweet and acidic and the long finish was moderately bitter. Palate was medium, watery/creamy and had a soft carbonation. It was bold in aromas but the only thing I found wrong with it was the mild flavors and lack of much complexity mullet2007 (115), Newfoundland, Canada Dec 31, 2007 Dark black color, not quite completely opaque, with a deep brown head that doesn’t last too long. Aroma is pretty much dark malts, some reasonably pronounced coffee notes. Very sweet, much too sweet. Otherwise, strong coffee notes, pretty much dominant, not much of the normal stout sort of flavors. Somewhat watery for a stout, but the carbonation is alright. JRHBrew (173), Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Dec 15, 2007 I liked Garrison nut brown and red, so I thought I’d buy the sample pack. This one was the biggest disappointment. It’s worse than all of the few attempts I’ve made at brewing a stout. Geth_in_beer (670), Nova Scotia, Canada Nov 7, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of blackberries, a little metallic. Jet black in colour, off white head which quickly dissipates to a slick lace clinging to the sides of the glass. High carb. Smoky charcoal initially but soon changes to a thin flavour. Not much behind it. Typical Garrison from my experience of this brewery so far. JAF737300 (733), New York, New York, USA Sep 29, 2007 Pours deep chocolate brown. Notes of light ocffee and solid roasted grains. The palate seems a bit on the thin side.
