4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - AUG 24, 2011
Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver; brewed 2011-01-18; 11.3% ABV Dark amber color, mahogany, with red reflexes, and a small sized creamy head. The aroma is full malty, nutty, with some chocolate, some fudge, dusty English notes, hops, maybe some oxidisation. Rich malt flavor, with caramel and hints of liquorice, with a spicy profile; the body is round, and the sweetness is correct and not overpowering; the hopping is bold, well blended in this beer; there is an evident alcohol presence that produces a very pleasant warming effect on the tongue. Very good Barley Wine, American style.

Bottle… Dark, cloudy, mahogany ale with a small, creamy, vanilla head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is a merger of caramel, cola and mocha. Medium-bodied and creamy with airy carbonation. Mainly, the flavor is very hoppy and hot – alcohol and lupulin bitterness overshadow a trace of caramel. Bittersweet, mocha, grassy finish. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeMcPhee (6966) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 20, 2009
I somehow forgot to enter this, even though I brought it to the tasting. Amber our with a thin white head. The nose is light malty with a touch of candyish sweetness. A kiss of toasted malt as well. Sweet with a bit of peppery booziness. It’s very light-bodied for a barleywine, but it has a nice dry character. Herbal and a little bit minty. It’s not bad, but it could be a whole lot better.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (6125) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2011
2009 version, it may not have aged optimally even over such a short period in its long expected life. Unfiltered look. Taste, a little spicey. Sugar sweet aroma.A tad above average mouthfeel. Hits the style, an above average beer though unexceptional.
Thanks Liam.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 15, 2010
2010-02-13. Hazy dark orange amber body with a nice beige head. 3+ Aroma of modest alcohol and muted hops. 7+ Flavour is similar with modest alcohol and light bitterness present throughout, the bitterness is amplified in the finish. 7+ Smooth medium to full bodied palate. 3+ Solid, very drinkable barleywine, the alcohols is quite well rounded - be it by age or by design I do not know. I suspect it was a touch hoppier when fresh. It is enjoyable but surprisingly mild considering the strength. Bottle approximately a year old, from trade with OKBeer

Aroma nice refreshing aroma, hops with good sweet side to it. Alcoholic mid with hint of vanilla. Clean soft big brew. Hint of caramel. Very nice. 8+
Appearance murky brown with dark beige creamy head. Fragmental lace.4-
Flavor and Palate : Full bodied. Plenty of caramel but sugars were in check. Large dosage of alcohol did the balancing act. Slight hint of fruit. Very nice.
