4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - AUG 24, 2011
Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver; brewed 2011-01-18; 11.3% ABV Dark amber color, mahogany, with red reflexes, and a small sized creamy head. The aroma is full malty, nutty, with some chocolate, some fudge, dusty English notes, hops, maybe some oxidisation. Rich malt flavor, with caramel and hints of liquorice, with a spicy profile; the body is round, and the sweetness is correct and not overpowering; the hopping is bold, well blended in this beer; there is an evident alcohol presence that produces a very pleasant warming effect on the tongue. Very good Barley Wine, American style.

Bottle. Very hazy dark red-orange with an orange-tinted head. Floral husky caramel, brown sugar aroma. Chewy, heavily malty palate. REALLY malty, but with equal amounts of aromatic citrusy floral hops to balance it out. No hint of the ABV. I’ve had a few barley wines this holiday, and this one really stood out. Fantastic!

Bottle thanks to piscator34. Very dark amber pour, medium and lasting carbonation with a rich malty and sweet brown sugar aroma. Flavor is plum, herbs, creamy malt and finished peppery and just slightly boozy on the finish. Solid barleywine, really enjoyed this one!

500ml Bottle. Pours a clear deep reddish amber with a pearl coloured head, perfect carbonation for this style of beer. Aroma is of sweet malts, with notes of toffee, with some vanilla. Taste: Very malty, moderate sweetness, notes of caramel, with a good floral hop bitterness, some earthiness. Warming mouthfeel, very full-bodied. Finishes with a grassy bitterness over a nice malt sweetness. An excellent barley wine!

Bottle 500 ml
Aroma nice refreshing aroma, hops with good sweet side to it. Alcoholic mid with hint of vanilla. Clean soft big brew. Hint of caramel. Very nice. 8+
Appearance murky brown with dark beige creamy head. Fragmental lace.4-
Flavor and Palate : Full bodied. Plenty of caramel but sugars were in check. Large dosage of alcohol did the balancing act. Slight hint of fruit. Very nice.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Boutip (3467) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 12, 2009
Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a light foamy head with some retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry fruits with distinctive notes of plums and figs with some well balanced sweetness. Taste is also a quite complex mix between some dry plums and figs with notes of balanced sweet caramel malt. Body is about average with good carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Very well done overall and glad that brewer still see the point of brewing barleywine without throwing a ton of hops at them.
