3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JesseM (942) - Kitchener-Waterloo, - FEB 7, 2012
Pours a beautiful sparkling gold with a large white cap. 500mL bottle. Lickkboe. Mild aroma of floral hops, I guess Saaz but they’re not overly distinctive here. Flavour hits right away with some sharp hop bite, followed by some waves of sweet, delicious pils malt. Oh man, the way this one progresses on the palate is awesome. Body is light, but a bit more than one would expect from a Pils. My one problem is with the carbonation, but I guess that’s part of the territory in lager land. Swirling the glass a bit takes care of everything. Bready, doughy aftertaste that makes you want more. I wish I’d got more of this, although the price is kind of steep (wtf LCBO).
3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BreWedge (30) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 11, 2012
500 ml bottle. Poured clear gold with a thick, large bubbled head. Aroma was mild skunk, almost rubbery. Mildly sweet, mid range hops, plenty of malt. Biting mouthfeel with a medium bitter finish. Unique brew that I would try again despite the offputting aroma.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 solidfunk (660) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2012
hmmm, I dunno. Trying to determine why this rates so high and not seein it. Tsmells like nothing, tastes like bitter chemicals with a little foul sourness at the end. Definitly not worth the four bucks when u can get the same ilk for two.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 piscator34 (1644) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 29, 2012
Bottled sample. Gold in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of pilsner malt, herbal hops, black pepper, and a bit of skunk. Crispy malts upfront in the mouth, along with more herbal and earthy hops. Medium bitternss. A bit on the rustic side, and a bit skunky, but still pretty good.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tupalev (2730) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 9, 2012
Bottle, thank you Colin and Kendra! Dark yellow, small white head. Saaz in aroma, but mild - some spicy/malt in there as well. Taste is classic pils, and does seem like a hybrid - heavier on the malt like German but very spicy hops like the Czech style. Bit of a short finish. It did not wow me, but it is a style better tried fresh on tap as well (seemed to suffer a bit in the bottle). Decent.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 baldric (6) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 6, 2012 does not count
Light blonde pour with a thick head that quickly dissipated. Nice lacing, though.
Taste is a bit thin with a bright carbonation. Cereal taste and pleasant hops, but this bottle had a strong metallic undertone that was a big detraction from an otherwise nice pilsner.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 czar (1211) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 30, 2012
pours a clear bright golden with a very tall creamy white head, very good retention and lacing. very fine malts, saaz, citrusy, peppery, fruitiness, tingling fun, hint of sweetness. lively, almost aggressive carbonation, finally settles. very nice!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (3467) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 28, 2012
Bottle: Poured a clear golden color pilsner with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light dry floral notes with some clean cereal notes. Taste is a good mix between some floral notes with light dry hops and some good cereal notes with light grainy aftertaste. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well done though you can feel how fragile those pilsner can be since it is already showing some tired signs after being moved across the country.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheJester (1265) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2012
500 mL bottle. Right colour, but not much head. Nice combo of malt and hops in the aroma, and the malts in the flavour ad very well done. A little sweet. Quite well done, though.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rwgould (215) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 11, 2012
0.5l bottle from LCBO, served in a pint glass. Appearance: Transparent orange, medium carbonation, small fine white head. Aroma: Hops, vanilla, toffee. Very nice. Palate: high carbonation, thin bodied but not water, smooth, dryer finish. Taste: sweet start, then medium bitterness throughout. Very nice pilsner.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Radek Kliber (5308) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - MAR 11, 2012
Bottle 500 ml
Aroma: mild nose , dryness, grainy malt, gentle soapy hop notes.7-
Appearance: clear golden look with large snowy cap on top. Very classic like pils look. 4+
Body , Flavour , Palate and Final Notes: medium light bodied. Too dry to be Bohemian styled, different hops to be German Pils....kind of blend of everything. Still neatly brewed. Fresh, crisp with hop bite to it. Light end. Refreshing brew.
