COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
North America’s oldest beer style brewed with local spruce & fir tips, blackstrap molasses & dates. Dark amber and brown colouring. Aroma is a comforting mix of spruce boughs, caramel malts, molasses and dates. Complex and full bodied, it balances the crisp bitterness of spruce and fir gum with the warming flavours of molasses and bittersweet chocolate.

Bottle [500ml]. Pours a very deep ruby, almost brown, with an average size diminishing frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, nice amount of spruce, some light sugary sweetness and dark fruit. Nice flavour of spruce, caramel malt, spices and dark fruit -- just a joy to drink. Medium bodied. Not sure you’d like it if you hate spruce but I love it and I love this. -- Rated via Beer Buddy.

Pours dark red/brown. Slight haze. Inch or so of yellowish head. Smell of Christmas trees fills the room. Caramel malt backing it up. Really interesting taste - distinctly sprucey, molasses definitely noticeable. Tastes like sap in the best possible way. Opens quite sweet - malt character is a bit like an english mild (but more alcohol). Alcohol, by the way, is totally hidden. Really seductive.

Dark Amber pour with a quickly disappearing white head. Smoky nose with dark fruits and molasse. Some spruce taste and some sweetness. Overall not bad at all and another good beer from my favorite micro brewery in the maritime provinces

This is a really nice beer. Up front hint of pine needles. Middle is sweeter, more like molasses. Finish is again a bit of pine with also maybe a bit of a hop bite. Medium creamy in the mouth with light to medium carbonation. Great stuff from an always interesting brewery.

For me, this is perfect winter beer. It’s so pleasingly complex on the palate, and just keeps on expanding and opening up. If you’ve ever been to a sugar shack, this is the taste of tree sap boiling, natural sugars developing and becoming richer in flavour. The spruce is always there and pleasantly balanced with the rich, dark sweetness. God this is sublime.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. pours dark brown with a lasting tan head. aroma of molasses and spruce. rich malt body, tons of spruce, almost medicinal. i found this hard to drink with the sweetness and spruce not fitting together all that well. wont purchase again.

500ml bottle. Aroma was malt, molasses and resin. Poured a deep amber with an ample sponge toffee head. Taste was more molasses and brown sugar with some dark fruit and resin, but the spruce came in on the finish where the hops would normally be. Full bodied. Overall, unique and interesting, but not as sprucey as I was expecting.

Brown pour, ruby hues, a finger of quickly disipating head. decent lacing. Aroma of molasses, dark fruit, spruce/fir needles, brown sugar, earthy. spruce/pine/fir up front, Molasses, leather, burnt brown sugar. thicker bodied, prickly carbonation on the tongue. Spruce and dark fruit in the aftertaste. A very interesting beer for the winter and the sleeper of the Garrison lineup. Impressive.

Bottle, ty LCBO, or specifically the person who tried to hide the last bottle at the uptown Waterloo LCBO. I found it :) . Thank you also to Colin and Kendra and family, who had someone wait in line in Halifax for this as well! Very dark amber pour, small murky tan head. Smokey aroma, dark fruit, wood. Taste: a whole lotta spruce. A ton. Molasses near the end. But lingering finish comes back as spruce. Turns sweet really, but not cloying. Certainty thick and full bodied. A damn interesting beer. First sip thought it was way too much, by the end I am thinking a winter warmer pint would be great if they upped the carbonation just a bit. Very creative, interesting, and well executed Garrison, I am impressed.

Dark copper pour, small white head. Big earthy aroma, some spruce, and sweet fruits. Flavor was big on molasses and more earthy spruce. Touches of citrus from the spruce and ir ome through with a light fruits from te dates. Quite intereting and complex.
