Commercial Description:
This is a Northern English Brown Ale made with English Maris Otter Pale Ale & Caramel, German Munich, and Belgian Chocolate malts. It is hopped with American Simcoe and English Fuggles & East Kent Goldings. It features a dryer, 'nuttier' malt flavor than Southern Browns, with higher hopping and alcohol levels, though these are still in the low to medium range.

Draft. Brown body with a tan head. Nutty and malty some lightly toasted malt. A non aggressive hop character with little etoh. Not much here.

Deep brown pour with tan head and lace. A bit of a sour stale aroma but not really bad. Lemon and the sour I all too often associate with a brown. Cardboard was a flavor that I got here as well. Thin and watery. I know it didn’t sound like I liked this beer very much but it was a decent drinker.

Growler. Pours a light brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is only oddly sweet, some light roast. Taste is a bit out of whack - overly sweet, kind of fruity. Drank 1/2, just couldn’t finish. 2nd strike for gaslight.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep brown, moslty clear with a thin short lived head. Aroma was very dull- some light nutty malts and hints of chocolate and light floral hops. Dull flavor as well, a bit fruity, nutty, toasted malts, very light dry chocolate finish. Pretty boring and flavorless.

5/25/05 Garden State Brewfest. Finally found (some) of these notes. Overall probably the better of Gaslight’s entries. I haven’t known The Gaslight to be a very good brewpub but they try and sometimes produce a halfway decent beer. This was a standard nut brown.

At the 2005 Garden State Brewfest. Probably the best one that Gaslight brought that day. Not the best example of a nutty brown ale, but it sufficed.
