Commercial Description:
A traditional wheat-based ale from Southern Germany known for its clove-like' aroma and flavor produced by unique yeast strains. Dark version of Bavarian Weizen in which darker malt has been used. Slightly fuller, more robust flavor with notes of roastiness, it is mahogany with less clove than the Weizen style. A high percentage (50%) of wheat malt is employed. Fruity banana aromas and flavors are often found as well. This version is unfiltered and includes suspended yeast. We use German Munich, caramel & wheat and Belgian Chocolate malts as well as German Magnum & Tettnanger hops.

2.8.07 At the BP with AdamSkillin. This was not the wheatiest beer. Not like it could be. Looked nice, but lacked the character and flavor

Noted some sourness in the flavor as well. A drinkable Dunkel, a beautiful looking dark brown. Some roastiness.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy deep amber/ murky brown with a modest head but fades fast. Aroma is spicy with clove phenols and light on the banana esters. Light wheat flavor with some caramel, light chocolate hints and some nutty roastiness. Very light in the bitterness- finishes sweet but nice.
