decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Oct 2, 2008 Gold pour with creamy white head and lace. Light hops on the nose with a hint of light breadiness. An odd sort of cinnamony flavor with semi sweet maltiness with a pretty nice bitter. Medium bodied with a bit of agressive carbonation. Still a nice beer to style almost for me. Spot on no but pretty good. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Apr 26, 2008 20061209 Tap at brewery. Hoppy stuff with a mild, smooth body. Grassy but a touch vegetal. Clean and quick. Good enough, but not very kolschy. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Dec 26, 2006 on tap-pours a white head and gold color. Aroma is honey, flat hops, grain. Taste is flat hops bite, honey, grain. OK carbonation. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Dec 11, 2006 On tap at the pub. This was probalby the only decent beer on tap that night out of about 8 beers. With that said, this still wasnt anything like a kolsch. Pours a light gold, mostly clear and a thin white head. Aroma is grainy, and earhty,. herbla hops with a light lemony pressence. No fresh bready pils malts, no light esters- hardly any hop presence, and it isnt fresh noble german hops. Light crackery malt flavor with some adjunct graininess and some DMS. Lightly bitter in the finihs- easy drinking, but bland and nothing to it. Crappy interpretation of a Kolsch. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jun 4, 2006 6.2.06
I’m pretty convinced that almost nobody in the US knows how to make a Kolsch at all. They are all different and none are really very good. This was pretty good I just think it wasn’t a kolsch at all. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jun 1, 2006 orange with a small head. aroma: phenolic fruits, some banana, earthy, sweet malt. Taste is the same with some vanilla, wood showing through. slightly bitter finish. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA May 26, 2006 on tap at the brewpub. pale yellow clear color, short white head. aroma is sugar malt, a little sour grass. flavor is light dry malt, some white sugar sweetness, and mild grassy bitter finish.
