Commercial Description:
A variation of sweet stout but has oatmeal added to increase the fullness of body and flavor. The result is often described as giving a firm, smooth, and silky character to the beer with some nuttiness to the flavor. Otherwise similar to sweet stouts. An English style of stout. Dark roasted grains and malts dominate the flavor as in dry stouts, though generally some unfermented sugar is left in the beer. Very dark black. Hopping is moderate. We use English Maris Otter, caramel & black, German Munich, Belgian Chocolate & American Roasted Barley and Flaked Oats. It is hopped with American Simcoe & English Fuggles.

Draft sampler at Gaslight. Poured a dark brown color with a medium off-white foamy head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium roasted malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a light bittersweet finish of average duration. Drinkable brew.

Very foamy head, but light on taste. Not horrible, but lacked a real flavor of any kind. Watery.

On nitro at the brewpub. Pours a deep brown with dark amber highlights and a lasting nitro head. Sweet lightly roasty aroma with hints of tobacco chocolate, nuts and smoke. Flavor is roasty with light caramel malts more chocolate and a slight diacetyl buttery taste which works well. Pretty good overall.
