2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasting of 10 altbiers. This came out worst for both tasters. Harsh taste, slight roast, bitter, watery. Didn’t seem very balanced.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 4.8%. Dark orange/brown colour. Big, stable, creamy, light brown head. Low to medium bitterness. Flavour and aftertaste are fruity and roasted. Pleasant carbonation. Quite OK beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Derdoppelbock. Deep brown, crystal clear, lasting beige head. Malts, but you can tell it has that slightly stale aroma. Some nice malt in mouth, but otherwise a bit empty. Some good hop on the end. Tastes a bit metallic and pasteurised. Malt and hop on finish has some fruit. Ultimately its not that great.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Copper pour with a soapy tan head. Smells sweet with caramelly malt. Tastes the same with very light hoppy bitterness and toastmalt. Dryish. Needs less on the sweet end and more on the hoppy-bitter end. Thanks to MoritzF!

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Typical brown caramel color, with a toast tan and white colored head. Oily, slimy texture, flavor has some spoiled vegetable and metallic notes, with an influx of unpleasent medicinal flavors. Not a good beer by any means.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 18, 2006 Re-rate, November ’06: Just as nice as the first time. Good hop balance, somewhat dry finish, clean and crisp, very drinkable. Lighter in body than other alts if you want to knock it on anything, but this was really refreshing after a long day of work and 36hrs of no sleep. Original rating, August ’05: A fine altbier from the Krefeld-Dueseldorf area, this one poured a dark / deep copper color with a head that was very respectable, which provided outstanding lacing, and which lasted the ENTIRE drink. The malty sweet base was a great balance to a somewhat hoppy finish that was dry and enjoyable. The clean lager - hoppy approach to a blanced beer sure exceeds the american pale lager approach. As far as session beers go, I don’t know that you can do much better than altbiers. Mmmmm mmmmm good.
