Bottle conditioned. Chestnut red, slight haze. Good thin but lasting off white head and moderate condition. Enticing yeasty dubbel aromas, with a maltiness reminiscent of malt whisky barrels and a slight tangy edge. Definite tangy metallic sour note in the mouth but the yeast and chocolate notes balance it out. Lingering chocolate and chalky yeast in the finish with a hazelnut note coming through right at the end. Thanks to John White for this gem.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Bought at the brewery (with taproom), which was actually closed, but the son in law let us in and gave us a tour, and a lattle later brewmaster (and father in law) Eric Amaye showed up himself! He is a small, mild man with a timid pride in his beer. The beer is a brown, spicy ale with perfect harmony between the sweetness and the bitterness. Sweetness from added brown sugar. Sediment in the bottle makes the last mouthfull a muddy experience. A very satisfactory beer. 050804

Dark brown with a tall, fine, pillowy head. Dry aroma of dark fruits, light caramel, and a slightly sour tang. Inviting and original. There is also something almost tropical in the nose! Tangy, fruity flavor with caramel and chocolate, blueberry. Rather sour, verging slightly on an old bruin. Dry, clean and very tasty. Love it.

Very dry. Feels lower than it’s alcoholic vol. Brown. Complex aroma. Very good.

Bottle. Malty aroma, brown sugar, slightly farty. Cloudy brown colour. Small stable light brown head. Sweetish flavour with a good sourness and hint of salt. Like a very mild Flemish sour. Slightly high carbonation. Good mouthfeel, creamy, when some of the excess CO2 is gone. Quite good and OK balanced.

Light brown coloured, littley hazy with some soft carbonation and a small off white head. Sweet caramel like aroma, Full body, palate is little sweet again. Finish is bitter, fruity (some banana hints), near the end a rather strong, more yeasty touch. Very nice one.

bottle, pours a deep red with a thin brown layer riding next to the foam, tall light tan head, laces well. Sweet and spicey aroma with all spice, nutmeg, and carmel malt, some yeast and a hint of alcohol. Creamy texture brings a slightly sweet doughy malt with some roasted notes. There is a definate strong spice going on, more of a hot cinnamon, but it’s felt more riding the alcohol in the finish. Solid.

Bottled. Cloudy dark amber. Estery strawbeery aroma with a light touch of vinegar. Sweet nose, somewhat frutity, clean mouthfeel, some syrup. Drier finish. Interesting, but not as good as their blond.

Bttoled. Purchased at Delirium Cafe. Ruby shaded body with a sienna halo about it. There’s miliions of minute tan particles suspended in it. A small tan head blocks my access to the beer. Aroma is steeped in ripened fruit (banana and pears), sweetened malts, brown sugar, light spice and cocoa. Taste is sweet and very fruity with candyish notes and some light spice coming through as well. Body is creamy with a mild carbonation feel to it. Finish is very candyish and sweet. Not too bad!

16/05/2011 33cl bottle @ home - BB: SEPT/2012 (2011-212)

Cloudy brown beer with purple glare. Off-white crackling head, falls back to a few mm of creamy light beige foam. Aroma: tart apples, green apple skin, a bit fruity, some spices (pepper, ginger). MF: good carbon, light to medium body. Taste: sour apples (pretty predictable from the smell), lemony, a bit of caramel, slightly sweet touch, some lactobacillus. Aftertaste: turning pretty tart, lemony, but also some wood tones and some hop or bitter spices. On warming up, chocolate and tangerine is also detected. Well, apparently the infections of the beer are their "style", and in this beer it works (sort of) but I’m still uncertain whether to like it or not.
