4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JorisPPattyn (6736) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - DEC 15, 2002
Very nice aroma. Spices (21 different kinds added - in 2002 even more!)are responsible, but also a ever so slight lactic infection (this beer is 1 year old - the new one not yet availbale), which is both pleasing to nose and palate. Slightly sweet, but beautifully balanced by the lactic acid.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 nuplastikk (2615) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 16, 2010
Bottle at Maxs. Spicy. Lots of cinnamon and orange peel. Very Belgian thick yeasty tones. Brown-orange color. Cinnamon and nutmeg are in your face, but somehow balance out. Intensely spiced Belgian Xmas beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 DScanlon (70) - Florida, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle at Eulogy Tavern. A chunky beer to say the least! Pours a coppery color with tons of yeasty sediment. Great, weird, complex flavors. Spicy, fresh and dried fruits, some malt, minimal hops. Sour yet still sweet enough to not be overpowering.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Trappistenbier (44) - BELGIUM - AUG 11, 2003
The perfect X-mas beer.
More then 40 spices are used according the comments of masterbrewer Eric Ameye. Dark brown with longlasting foamhead. The typical subtile lacto acid again detectable. Spicy, malty, yohurty, slightly hoppy and carbonation is not too overwhelming.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bhensonb (7589) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 8, 2012
Bottle at 6.8% from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours very hazy dark copper with small dark chunks. Frothy beige head. There’s an extremely strong evergreen, perhaps spruce, aroma. Full bodied and very frothy. There’s a sour component, lots of fruit, and still evergreen. Yeast/spice. Probably more stuff, but it’s all complexly intermingled. Certainly more dry than not. Very tasty, if a bit challenging.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2008
Bit of a mouthful. Murky ruby beneath a fine beige collar. Attractive apple yeasty English BCA aroma snorting with basement, cherry fruit, caramel, hop fustiness, gelatinous sweet berry notes, strawberry jelly once warm. As with the Slaapmutske, booze-sodden black cherry to the fore, but underpinned this time by the occasional gnaw of sprucey hop. Alcohol-free, balanced, complex. Almost spearmint and aniseedy spice hints as it warms. Blood and teaspoon of sour. Thick clods of yeast if youre so inclined, visible silt of spices. Getting cinammon now Ive tipped the bits in loud and clear, but not overdone. Berry fruit, yeast, caramel and sourness melding nicely with the spices. Definite gust of pine holding everything in check. Festive, busy, integrated brew. English brewers of crimes commited in the name of Christmas take heed.
