Patrickctenchi (3814) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - OCT 19, 2014
Bottle: Cloudy, orange-amber with a smooth, solid off-white head. Red apple, tangerine, breadheel aroma. Taste is fruity, sweet...a little bready. Body is delicate and soft... Slightly stale and off-putting, straw aroma. Dry and a little farmhouse-like.. Not bad, but a bit iffy on the style.

Bottle at Wallington 2014. It pours clear golden with a medium white head. The nose is soft, fruity, juicy, fresh orange, tangerine, sherbet and straw. The taste is clean, crisp, bitter, sherbet, orange, tangerine, straw, earth, brioche and light alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, clean and very drinkable. Crushable for the abv.

Bottle. Golden, cloudy, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate to full, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, light caramel and some tropical fruitiness with some grapefruit - citrus hoppyness. Body is medium to full, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - piney hoppyness, light alcohol. Finish is average to long, malty and lightly sweetish, light caramel and faint fruitiness, some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness, some alcohol. Belgian DIPA with decent bitterness, not too sweet. Bit too much alcohol in the finish.

Bottle split at Mother Arch, thanks to Ian, 06/09/14. Hazed orange amber with a well appointed off white covering. Nose is pomegranate, spice, light floral, yeast esters, straw, cotton candy, bitter orange. Taste comprises caramel, straw, yeast esters, bitter orange, spice, faded hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok.

pours cloudy orange with a very nice and tall light beige-orange head, good retention and lacing. very fruity - oranges, tangerines, lo-fi phenols - bubblegum, very spicy belgian yeast, bitter herbs - mint, coriander and pepper, fresh spicy bready sweetish cereals, christmas peppery crackers, hint of sweetness - candi, candies and jujubes, woodsy grassiness. very boozy. bright belgian carbonation, medium body - oily and a bit foamy, offensive harsh earthy-grassy-citrusy-piney finish. very nice yeast job - but hop bill does not pair well.

Bottle at Kernel with Harry. Thanks to Phil Lowry. Hazy dark amber. Soap hop. Ok hop. Touch of pate. It’s fine. Not hugely interesting

Pours a slightly hazy light copper with a huge offwhite head that leaves intense lacing. Nose is of hops and pepper, almost exactly what you’d expect a double belgian IPA to be. Said hops are fruity, of maybe it is the yeast? Anyway, intriguing. Taste is moderately sweet and bitter but what I taste mostly is the alcohol. Peppery alcohol. Finishes dry, most likely it is the alcohol at work here. Body is quite full and carbonation really high. Overall this was good but nowhere mindblowing. I’m not recognizing Tired Hands’ style here at all, I just wish it was closer to that!

P.S. Opens up as it warms and the carbonation calms down, offers some pears and generic yellow fruits.

Bottle. Solid hop hit. Mild grassy tones. Alcohol isn’t very noticeable. Quite drinkable finish. Good.

Van alle bieren dat ik geprobeerd heb van Gaverhopke is dit de slechtste. Absoluut mijn smaak niet.

Collaboration brew described as ’Belgian ale / double IPA’, so apparently a deliberate attempt to joint the best of both worlds. Irregular, dirty yellowish, stable head and cloudy orange blonde colour with a haze of floating yeast particles. Powerful aroma of freshly cut orange, tonic water, candied pineapple, candi sugar, ginger, straw, tomato; taste begins with a fresh ’citrusness’ paired with a somewhat strange sweet touch (honey?), crispy and nicely rounded, smooth mouthfeel, strong carbonation even tiring the tongue a bit, leading to a herbal hop bitterness of an aromatic and floral nature, so not too agressive, while the orange-sweetness from the onset also lingers on way deep into the finish. Unfortunately the finish is also dominated by an astringent alcohol burn, practically ruining what would otherwise be a great beer.
