COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Gavroche has a very thick, fizzy, quickly-dissipating, cream-colored head, an opaque, red-orange, bubbly appearance, with considerable lacing left on the glass. The aroma is strong, sweet, sour, yeasty, and even nutty. Taste is of sweet, yeasty, sour bread, bread crust, grain husk, alcohol, light fruits, and somewhat harsh bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Gavroche finishes wet, heavy, and cloying. This is a "big boy beer", and it won’t be for everyone. RJT

berlinmany (224) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 14, 2014
A very substantial beer. Its says its a Red Ale on the label, but its more of a scotch ale. Caramel and maltiness permeate the taste. The alcohol is a bit too promanent for my tastes. Overall its worth trying.

gegwilson (1269) - North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - OCT 8, 2014
Bottle brought back from France. Pours amber with an off white head. The taste is caramel, citrus and plenty of spiciness. Some warming alcohol that gets more evident as it warms. Not bad.

superspak (2683) - Michigan, USA - SEP 29, 2014
330 ml bottle into tulip glass, 1320 bottle coding. Pours very hazy/cloudy reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, apricot, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance an complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, apricot, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. A fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, cherry, apricot, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Biere de Garde style. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours an unclear red color. Aroma of malt and straw. Taste is of malt, caramel, bread, yeast, nuts, spices, fruits and alcohol. It’s a bit like an ale but a lot more tangy. Full body and so much carbonation it exploded out of the bottle. Didn’t like it much.

Bottle 33cl. Clear deep amber color, two finger fluffy off-white head, good retention and lacing; aroma of candy, fruity, peach, apricot, spicy (cinnamon); smooth medium sweet taste, followed by light bitterness, all the time fruity and spicy notes in the background; medium texture, creamy texture, lively carbonation; finish light bitter, hint of wood and a bit spicy, lingers on for a while. Nice beer.
