COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a thick off white head, over a clear copper (SRM 12-14) body....nose is light dried fruits (cherry, raisin) bit of brown sugar.....taste is light sweet sugar to start, then light dried fruits (cherry, raisin) arrive finishing with a light dry spice, hop type bitterness....mouth feel is medium, and slightly sticky, alcohol adds a bit of hotness, carbonation makes for a soda pop sensation. This meets the criteria for the style quite well, especially given its darker color. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

Clear copper colour with a big frothy head. Yeast, malt aroma. Thinner texture than expected but still a very good ale. Easy to drink for the strength. Slight oak earthy flavour. Thin body overall. Not full bodied as expected but still a very pleasant ale.

330ml bottle. Gushes out of the bottle. Bright amber in color with a little haze and a big slightly off-white head that leaves a little lace. Brown sugary malt and dandelions on the nose with a little underlying fruit and a hint of funk. Lively effervescence on the palate with that big brown sugar/caramel taste and a slight sweetness with some fruit esters through the middle and no real hint at the alcohol until the warming finish kicks in.

750 mL bottle. Had to use a corkscrew to open it . . . which may be a first. But then, I don’t get out much. Barnyard, caramel and a little yeast in the aroma. Brown sugar, bruised apple, marzipan, and a touch of honey and alcohol in the flavour. Not as dry as I expected. I’m not too familiar with the style, but I liked this beer.

Pours golden-copper with a mostly receding off-white head. A bit overcarbonated. Notes of dusty yeast, wood, alcohol, pepper, phenol, and bitter herbal hops. Medium to full bodied, alcoholic with lively carbonation. I found this a bit more enjoyable after sitting out for an hour or two.

Amber with a tall egg-foam head. Aroma is noble hops with grass and a bit of citrus. Taste is toast and alcohol with a lively, scrubbing carbonation that pretty much dominates the drinking experience, including flavor.

Pours a perfectly clear reddish orange with a decent enough head. The aroma is fruity and deeply nutty with some root herb. The hoppiness is both bright and earthy. The aroma is rye bread and some mild fruity sweetness. Overall this beer is nicely dry and has some complimentary pear and peppery notes. The carbonation is lively.

Bottle. An unusual beer that I had little preconceived notions above before trying. Color is hazy gray-gold. Aroma has subtle smoky notes, earthy. Flavor is smoky, grassy, soil-tobacco. Mild toffee round out things through the middle, but overall the flavors are very musky. Really interesting stuff, not sure how much I could drink of this, but for what its worth Gavroche hid its alcohol nicely and offered something unique.
