COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

A: Pours a nice deep nutty reddish brown color. To call the head thunderous would be an understatement. It puffs up real big and airy. Kind of reminds me of whipped egg whites or meringue. It does die down but a half finger of head remained for the duration of enjoyment with sparse lacing left behind. S: Nice aromas. The nose could be described as a perfect combination of dark fruits, brown sugar, buscuity malt, and bready yeast. It is a nice smelling beer that is very inviting. T: It is a very malty brew. Nice toasty nutty taste with a hint of caramel and brown sugar sweetness. There is some hardy spice in there as well. Pie spices are the best way to describe it ginger or nutmeg maybe? M: Very lively. Sparkling and bubbly on the tongue and throat

Bottle. Pours a very lightly hazy, reddish amber hue. A small, smooth head of khaki colored foam settles to a thin layer, leaving fat, horizontal flares of lacing on the glass. The nose is sweet, showing loads of bready, doughy malt with hints of graham cracker pie crust and powdered sugar. There’s a dry yeasty overtone, along with mildly peppery, dried and aged, floral, grassy hops. Flavors are mainly the same, showing notes of sweet bread, Quincy’s (defunct southern trashy buffet, circa 1980’s & 90’s) yeast rolls, and sugary dough with hints of honey kissed golden wheat. Golden Grahams cereal makes an appearance. A touch of dried grass and flowers shows on the back end. Med-plus in body, smooth, and low to moderately carbonated, the palate finishes slightly sticky. Overall, a solid, drinkable brew, but nothing special.

750 ml bottle. Pours a clear copper liquid with a huge frothy off-white head with good retention and beautiful lacing. sweet malt with caramel, yeast, alcohol, metal, herbs and spices. Very warming aroma. Flavor is also dominated by sweet malt and caramel at first, then, yeast makes itself noticeable. The second wave is very grassy and spicy with a fair amount of hops and warm alcohol in the final. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. I was very surprised by this one, it is much better and complex than what I remembered.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a huge beige head that lasts ages and also lots of chunks. The aroma is light but has notes of malt, caramel, honey and citrus. The flavour has a slight tartness to it and has yeast, citrus, malt, caramel and a little woodiness. Medium body, with high carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Very nice.

Botte (in NZ). A very lively pour - a hazy but bright orange-amber with a massive foamy head. A subdued nose, a little spicy alcohol and hint of nut. Generous mouthfeel, with plenty of alcohol bite on the palate. Again the flavours are quite subtle - only notes of caramel and hop fruit, but plenty of yeasty spice. Not quite to the same standard as the 3 Monts.
