COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Bottle. Thick white head on dark amber. Strong aroma of earthy caramel with a metallic note in the back. Bready caramel with a light yeastiness cutting through. Interesting palate; off kilter toffee, metallic and sour yeast.

330ml bottle. Pours with a huge foamy tan head. Beer is a hazy brown/orange, kind of like iced tea. Very sticky. Strong sweet and alcoholic aroma, with red fruit. Taste is fruity and boozy with ample sweetness. Very light bitterness. Bit of a pleasant musty/yeasty taste. Body is very dry. Overall, the best French beer I’ve had and very different than what usually turns up in North America. Makes me want to try more of this style.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2012 Slightly hazy amber/ruby. Fruity, malt and hops balancing just fine, and a pleasant amount of funky barnyard, too. One of the very best French beers I’ve tried.Nice to see that this has broad distribution. Complex, yet very drinkable.

750ml corked bottle pours murky amber color with about 2 fingers of light beige head and plenty of lacing on the side of glass. Aroma is fruity with some earthy notes. Taste is malty sweet with some earthy hop bitterness and some fruitiness. Medium bodied and adequately carbonated for a pleasing mouthfeel. An enjoyable tasting experience.

Murky brownish red, towering, fluffy white head. Smell is Prune, raisin, toast. Some cinnamon, too. Flavor is boozy, bourbon, with pit fruit. A bit of alcohol heat in the finish. Heavier than I was expecting.

Deep copper orange with lots of tan head when poured aggressively into a Palm pint tulip. Very lively with CO2. Notes of sweet berries. The taste is a mix of fruit, yeast and alcohol. Finish leads into the sensation where someone splits your lip and you get a sweet yet salty drip down the palate, maybe some dough, too. Hopefully this review was not read prior to consumption of Gavroche. I enjoyed this thoroughly.

750 mL bottle, cork and wire. Pours a clear amber orange with large beige head. The aroma is quite fruity, with notes of raspberry and pomegranate, slight black currant, some wet hay, a little bit of white raisin, gentle toast, and a distant touch of moss. The flavor is nice and dry with a smooth toasted malt character. The fruitiness is less pronounced than it is in the aroma, but hints of raisin and raspberry are still in there. The finish is a little bit woody and quite dry with just a little bit of tartness. A little bit of alcohol comes through in the finish and into the aftertaste. As it gets to room temperature I start to notice more earthy tones. Tasty.
