COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

I should have heeded the advise of the person a couple of posts before me. Explosive! Definitely open this one over the sink. So far, it has a beautiful pumpkin orange color, with lively carbonation in the glass. The nose reminds me of yeasty bread and the flavor is offset by the carbonation. The carbonation does lead to a sharp flavor, the body’s reaction to CO2. I will let this one sit for a few and all will be well with the world. Well Done!

One of the best de Gardes so far. Thick and full bodied with a nice fruity mixture of aromas combined with a nice mouthfeel, some balanced carbo and that high ABV in its background is a good choice. Thumbs up.

Bottle from trade with Calisky - many thanks, Fred! The beer has got a deep dark amber-brown colour with ruby hints, medium body and steady head, Mild carbonation. Aroma of malt, herbs and flowers. Taste of malt, barley, dark bread, wine, plums, nuts, flowers and herbs. Easy drinkable and very quaffable. Enjoyed it.

Is very acidy. Has quite a bite. Not hoppy and a bit of a malty going on. Julie says meh. She gives a 1.2

33 cl bottle. Opaque red copper, firmer tan foam settles and mostly lasts. Aroma is fruity yeasty, dark caramel. Taste is fruity yeast esters with sweet rich toasted caramel/toffee malts, some spice and herb, vinous at times. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Gavroche has a very thick, fizzy, quickly-dissipating, cream-colored head, an opaque, red-orange, bubbly appearance, with considerable lacing left on the glass. The aroma is strong, sweet, sour, yeasty, and even nutty. Taste is of sweet, yeasty, sour bread, bread crust, grain husk, alcohol, light fruits, and somewhat harsh bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Gavroche finishes wet, heavy, and cloying. This is a "big boy beer", and it won’t be for everyone. RJT

Bottle brought back from France. Pours amber with an off white head. The taste is caramel, citrus and plenty of spiciness. Some warming alcohol that gets more evident as it warms. Not bad.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, 1320 bottle coding. Pours very hazy/cloudy reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, apricot, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance an complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, apricot, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. A fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, cherry, apricot, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Biere de Garde style. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
