COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Bottle, 8.5%. Weak sugary aroma. Hazy brown colour, small head. The flavour is OK malty, slightly sweet with a hint of cream. Some marcipan to flavour along with a little rough bitterness. Rough and mild in a good combination. High carbonation and good alcohol level.

33cl bottle from Auchan. Amber colour with thick beige head. Toffee malt. Drying hop on finish. Not too strong tasting even given the 8.5% alcohol. Bit grainy in mouthfeel. Fine, just not very excitng

Bottle. It pours a clear, golden body under a huge, diminishing off-white head. Lightly milky nose with some fruityness and a touch of yeast. Yeast, milkyness notes, fruityness and some licorice-ish, or fennel maybe, hints. Caramel. Medium body. Fruity finish. Overall, a decent beer, I don’t care too much for the aroma, but the taste is nice, although a bit low on bitterness. Not low on bitterness according to style. 110917

Bottled (BB 01/2008)
Hazy dark orange-amber color, huge tanned foamy head, lace. Malty, earthy aroma, also some horse blanket. Liquerish palate with the typical bière de garde earthy notes and licorice flavor. Toffeish and slightly alcoholic and metallic aftertaste. I haven’t rated so many bière de gardes but I think this is a good example of the style.

Hazy amber colour. Yeasty aroma with firm malts, light spiciness. Hazy yeastiness, light maltiness. Not bad, but rather nondescript and overly yeasty.

Bottle. [thank you for bringing this from France, sysadm]
Pours a deep orange with a big, bubbly off white head with a slight yellow hue. Aroma is mild, some caramel, some roasted, some herbs and spices. Medium carbonation. Flavour is spicy peppery at first, then caramel sweetness and a spicy and oaky dryness at the end. Not really vinious despite the high ABV.
