3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beardfear (87) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUL 21, 2011
Clear in the bottle until spiked by the dense sediment. Pours a cloudy amber with a short well-retaining head. Interesting flavour profile: toffee, figs, earthy yeast and bread on the nose - but loads of sweet dates, alcohol and port in the mouth. Quite sweet; medium bitter and tangy finish. Dry, slightly sticky palate and heavy-ish carbonation. An imperfect but still delicious bière de garde.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 blackbock (85) - Shoalhaven NSW, AUSTRALIA - JUL 16, 2011
(bottle) Bottle started to foam once opened, although did not appear to be infected. Poured a red-amber colour with a curdled beige head.
Aroma of yeast and some spice. First taste was a surprising combination of rich malt with bitter aftertaste. Hot (fusel?) alcohol. I’m not getting any of the fruit flavours other tasters have noted. This is my first bier-de-garde and I have to say it has underwhelmed me. Not too sure why someone would bother to make this beer, it has nothing outstanding IMO.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 greedycheater (80) - Oklahoma, USA - APR 5, 2008
Beautiful amber pour. White, sustaining head. Toasty, rye bread aroma. Balanced, with very subtle hints of raspberry. A long, sweet malty finish. Very good - better than a 78 percentile rating. Now I just need a cellar to age it and see how complex those live yeast can make it over time!
3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Evocatus (72) - USA - AUG 4, 2009
Takes multiple pours to get it all into the glass. Once finished, it has a nice deep amber color with a thick beige head that lasts for a good amount of time. Smells a little bit fruity, like apples; however, the scent isn’t too strong. Taste is a mix of bitter hops and fruit. It goes down pretty smoothly with a slight tingle on the tongue when it first touches the mouth. Overall a good beer from France which is somewhat surprising for a country mostly known for wine, champagne, and cognac.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 AJofDenver (71) - Colorado, USA - MAY 27, 2010
The color of this beer is that of dark brown with hints of a light orange color towards the outter rim. This beer has a sweet piney like flavor that attacks the nose. The taste is that of spicy malts coupled with a sweet earthy finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 ELPADRINO (70) - The Woodlands, Texas, USA - MAY 20, 2006
Pours amber with large long lasting white head. Aroma is peppery roasted malt. Taste is very complex with pepper, sweet malts in the front and an alcohol finish. Bottle fermentation makes swallow very frothy. The first sips are good, but the higher alcohol content numbs the tongue, making the second half of the bottle less discernable.

This beer has small head with an amber color. The nose has raisin. The flavor is raisin, followed by a crispness followed by a very coppery flavor. the finish a bit crispness and mineral but very round.
