COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

Nice medium copper color. Little nose or head on this sample. The taste is sweet and malty, notes of caramel, but no noticeable fruit.

’biere de garde’ is french meaning a beer that you like a lot and don’t want to share and so you hide it in the back of the fridge lest any thirsty retards come over and find it. if they do, and attempt to drink it, you "garde" it aggressively, jabbing them with a barbeque fork if necessary-- hence the term in fencing "en garde!" a beautiful head rides on this cedar-russet pour, like a mat of pussy willow fluff-- but it doesn’t last long, so you may want to have your camera ready to capture the moment. the flotsam awaiting in the bottle is as dense as an astronomical "globular cluster", though it brings only a slight mustiness to the aroma and flavor. otherwise, the aroma is a strong waft of stove-top warmly fragrant caramel, plus some straw, dough, and peach slices drizzled with alcohol and ready to flambe´. likewise with the flavor, it’s sweet in a fruity whole-grain muffin kind of way-- with lively carbonation; it’s certainly deliciously full-bodied, and-- lest you drift in forever into that blissful (albiet two-demensional) 8.5% abv. and sweet toffee dreamland, it nudges you with a gentle wake-up call of orange rind bitterness.

Hazy amber with a big frothy brown head. Good head retention and some thin lacing. Aroma of malt, alcohol, caramel and some hints of apple. Taste of chocolate, caramel, fruit, sourness and some dark fruits. Fairly dry, very warming. Light carbonation. A wonderful beer.

Dark translucent orange color with large off-white head and some lacing. Aroma was very weak with light malts. Flavor had light fruit and malt flavors, some caramel and spices. It did taste a little oxidized, I’m not sure how old the bottle was, but I think it would have been more flavorful if fresh.

750 ml corked bottle. Aged approx one year. Pours copper in colour, yeast suspended throughout. Biit of a gusher. Small, off white head. Mild, caramel aroma, taste is similar, mainly caramel malt. Highly carbonated. Enjoyable!

Bottle. Pours copper with a huge head. Aromas of malts and yeast, flavors fairly sweet, but not overpowering. Clean finish. Hints of hops are noticeable on the palate, the alcohol is well hidden.

21/10/2009. 33cl bottle courtesy of TheGrandmaster. Gorgeous deep rose gold, just off-brilliat, with a huge cream airy head. Pretty clean... Caramel and subtle stewed fruits, with a surprisingly warm alcohol note. Tidier in the mouth, where it seems like a bock fermented with a subtle ale yeast... slips down way too easily. Pretty nice but I can’ figure out if it’s a bus stop beer for those classy French or a beer worthy of its literary association... I like anyway, as confusing as it is.
