COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

[bottle] Reddish amber in color, almost clear. Spicy, alcoholic malt aroma. Sweet fruit flavors balance well with alcohol and some slight acidic complexity.

Aroma is complex and enticing. The presentation is a knockout: deep and cloudy ruddiness with a frothy foamy head. Nice sticky lacing. Gives the appearance of an old-world classic, as it demands respect. Taste is yeasty and fruity. There is considerable depth, and the beer plays well to a hearty sloshing in the mouth as it reveals creaminess, something toasted, and some boozy alcohol. Reminds me of a fine Trappist trippel.

11.2oz brown bottle from A-1 To-Go in Gardiner. Pours a hazy golden almost red body with nearly an inch of off-white head. Smell is not overwhelming, but consists of spice, caramel, and fruit. Tastes fruity - like citrus, apple, pear... Some roast, yeast, and slight alcohol is apparent. Very dry, one of the driest beers I’ve had in some time. Fairly clean on the finish Medium in body with vigorous carbonation. A fairly easy drinker considering the abv. Not bad at all, but not necessarily something I’ll be seeking out again very soon. Well worth the try though, very unique.

Cloudy brick red pour with a thick, lasting off white head. Malty, caramel aroma. Sweet, with a nice caramel/toffee flavour, finishes with very low bitterness, alcohol warmth.

Amber/brown beer with an off-white head. Fruity, fresh, malty aroma. tastes caramel and roasted malts, a bit licorice and cinnamon, sweet, nutty and just a bit woody/nutty. finishes a bit sourrish and spicy. Could use some more body, i guess. nice sipper thought.

Bottle. 11/12/14. Pours translucent amber with a fluffy, fast-fading off-white head. Aroma is very fruity, dark berries, cherries, some grapes, earth, farmyard, salt, leather. Taste is fruity, berries, leather, vanilla, earthy, bubblegum, fruit esther qualities reminiscent of Belgian yeast strains; finish is fruit and earthy with an unfortunate hint of oxidation. Lacing is full and dense throughout. Medium carbonation with small but active bubbles. Mouth feel is medium-full bodied, a bit oily. Tasty.

The bottle poured tawny red with fluffy tan head, into a snifter. Fair retention and good lacing, the aroma has nice caramel and yeasty, bread crusty notes. I like the balance between alcohol, intense caramel and hoppy acidity. And it opens up nicely with a bit of warmth. One of my favorite French brews to date.
