COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

An amber beer that has the appearance and smell of a vienna lager, it transforms completely upon quaffing. Aromas of amber malt as it reaches the mouth, there is a sudden burst of mild, flowery hops with a hint of spice and hay, tiny bit of acid in the finish nicely accompanied by a barnyard scent. Aftertaste lingers; toffee and smooth caramel, hint of chocolate and herbs. Very nice beer, a surprising mix of ale and lager-like qualities with a hint of wild fermentation.

330ml bottle. Pours with a huge foamy tan head. Beer is a hazy brown/orange, kind of like iced tea. Very sticky. Strong sweet and alcoholic aroma, with red fruit. Taste is fruity and boozy with ample sweetness. Very light bitterness. Bit of a pleasant musty/yeasty taste. Body is very dry. Overall, the best French beer I’ve had and very different than what usually turns up in North America. Makes me want to try more of this style.

Amber color with off-white frothy head. Malty and fruity aroma with hints of alcohol. Up front caramel malt sweetness followed by a quick bitterness. Long sweet fruit finish. Well balanced, creamy, full bodied beer.

750ml bottle. Pours a medium copper with thick, overflowing foam that recedes quickly to sticky off white lacing in the glass. Aroma is toffee malt, mild roast with some sweet and bitter notes there too. Taste is succulent with layered malt, honey, raisins, yeast. Buttery medium thick mouthfeel. Finish is decent, slightly warm with alcohol burn but not overly boozy.

Bottle, from Noel Cuveliers, Abele. Warm copper, beautiful mountains of thick sticky butter-colored foam. Aroma is a very difficult thing to dissect. Amost more of a mood or a place than components: a field of sweet peas, just coming up: a cold wet spring day. Big foamy carbonation, under which gentle flavors make mild-mannered appearances. A nice Munich malt touch, herbal, noble hops, lingering grass. Exceedingly light and delicate for the abv--so drinkable and restrained.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2006 Bottled. Orange coloured, huge white foamy, very lasting head and leaves nice lacing. Malty and fruity aroma with hints of caramel. Sweet malty taste with hints of caramel. Alcohol is pretty wellhidden but shows a bit in the finish. Taste is a bit unbalanced, but still this is a very fine beer. 7 5 7 3 14

Re-rate: Bottled. Amber colour, huge beigeish bubbly head. Aroma of spices, alcohol, fruits and lots of caramellish malts. Also a bit white chocolate. Flavour is fruity, caramellish malty, creamy and spicy. Pleasant carbonation. Some roast in aftertaste, along with caramellish malts. Was even better than I remembered. Pleasant "session"beer. 8 5 7 4 15.

Bottle from JCW. Clear amber body with a small beige head. The aroma is breade, golden raisins and pears. The flavor is fairly dry, dough, light toffee, grapes and light spice. Medium body has a high level of tight carbonation with a touch of alcohol in the finish. Well done.
