DaSilky1 (1933), San Diego, California, USA Aug 7, 2004 smells like budweiser and it looks like budweiser...the aroma had some added straw and oatmeal smells too..damn it@! I’ve been saving this for 2 or 3 years at perfect temps because I thought it might be a unknown beer to get better with age...so i waited and waited, I did. What a fucking waste! It tastes like Malt Liquor with some serious Burn behind it. You can pretty much taste every percent of that 12% alcohol. God this is some aweful aweful stuff. I SO! wanted this to be good. its not. and down the drain it goes.......... stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Jun 10, 2004 Like a hot American lager. Almost no flavor, like that. Alcohol is, I suppose, well hidden. Maybe mine was stale. Drank only half. If I want to get drunk I do shots of good bourbon. This goes down the sink. ಠַಠ (1375), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 5, 2004 Bottle. I was briefly legeing the ratebeer NoCals and found myself in BevMo before my flight home, and needed small bottles. This fit the bill, plus it is - a 12% ABV non-bock lager, and it’s FRENCH?? That was just too interesting, but then I took it home and saw the ratings. IslandHaole’s "like someone dropped a double shot of vodka in a macro lager" is all the description I need. Unfinishable. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Apr 27, 2004 A clear medium gold color with a small white head. Looks like a Japanese beer!
Can't get much from the aroma other than alcohol, well....there is a trace of sweet malts ...but just a trace. Yikes, tastes like someone dropped a double shot of vodka in a macro lager. I like powerful beers, as long as they're well-balanced, this isn't one of them. Not what I consider an enjoyable drinking experience. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 11, 2004 Updated: Apr 12, 2004Crisp thin dark yellow with a thin head. Don't breath too deep; initial aroma can clear the sinuses. Very strong alcohol scent, mercifully quiets down. Strong alcohol flavour with finish similar to a malt liquor. Intermingled hop and malt flavours try to raise this above the malt liquor label. Unfortunately any attempts by the malt and hop to bring enjoyment are drowned by the alcohol. Barely above a drain pour. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Apr 4, 2004 Light golden body, OK head. A lot of alcohol in the aroma and flavor with some malt and hop in the background. Not good, the alcohol is way too evident! Ungstrup (14758), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 28, 2004 A yellow beer with a fine whtie lazing collapsing head. The aroma is very sweet malty with notes of alcohol and plums. The flavor is also very sweet alcohol and malt with notes of apricot. It warms You up a lot. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2004 Ugly clear golden yellow with massive upward migration of bubbles. Aroma is bizarre: STRONG chlorine and really just smells like a pool in general. You soon come to realize that the slight burning sensation in your nostrils is the massive alcohol content. Flavor is also strange: quite sweet and very corny and quite medicinal. It's like taking medicine, but most doctors would agree that this medicine's not good for you. Finishes with a burn and a distinct wafting of the alcohol through your senses. Quite sickening, in fact.
